10 Mar 08 - 04:56 PM (#2284664) Subject: RE: What's on in North Carolina From: GUEST,JTS North Carolina is a pretty big place. We are in Wilmington. Which is hundreds of miles from where Merlefest takes place. If he is going to be in Wilmington, I could smoke him some turkey, and we could take him to the beach and buy him a beer downtown. |
10 Mar 08 - 05:02 PM (#2284675) Subject: RE: What's on in North Carolina From: Arkie There could be something in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill triangle or something around Ashville. There are some good old time musicians in the Ashville area. |
10 Mar 08 - 05:06 PM (#2284683) Subject: RE: What's on in North Carolina From: Greengal If you are near Asheville, you are about one or two steps near heaven. The town has music, art, theater and lectures going on bout any day of the week. Stop by the UNC to see the delightful Botanical Gardens, walk by Pack Square and drop in to the cafes and bars where late night music abounds and stop at Malaprops (bookstore) to get the weekly newsletter MountainXpress- lets you know what's going on in the area. Google The John Campbell School - an hour or so west of Asheville, this is the school that inspired the movie "Songcatcher" and has an amazingly accepting atmosphere for musicians and artist- they have classes in all kinds of arts and crafts (woodworking to watercolor) and weekly concerts, lectures and events. Or just walk out and savor the long and luxurious spring in North Carolina! Nothing could be finer. |

11 Mar 08 - 10:11 PM (#2285930) Subject: RE: What's on in North Carolina From: iancarterb There was always something going on in the Triangle area noted above even in the 1960s and it hasn't slowed down. And I bet the glorious spring is on in earnest already. And Asheville, as also noted above, is in fact near heaven except that eastern mountains are so far from the ocean, unlike the sensible Olympics and Cascades.:) |
