There ye go    D=G   G=C    A=D

D]Well I took a strool on the old long walk

Of a day I-ay I-[G]ay

I[D] met a little girl and we stoppet to talk

Of a fine soft day I ay-I ay

And I[G] ask you[D] friend whats a[G] fella to[D] do

Cause her[A] hair was[G] black and her eyes were[D] blue

And I[G] knew right[D] then id be[G] taking a[D] whirl

Round the[A] Salthill prom with a[G] Galway[D] girl

[2]

We were half way there when the rain came down

Of a day I ay I ay

And she asked me up to her flat downtown

On a fine soft day I ay-I ay

And I ask you friend whats a fella to do

Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue

So I took her hand and I gave her a twirl

And I lost my heart to a Galway girl

[3]

When I woke up I was all alone

With a broken heart and a ticket home

And I ask you now whats a fella to do

If her hair was black and her eyes were blue

I've travelled around I've been all over this world

But I aint never seen nothing like a Galway girl

Shouldn't it be

(D)I (Bm) met a little (A) girl and we (G) stopped to (A) talk...

etc throughout?

Can anyone assist with the mandolin tabulature for Steve Earle's " Galway Girl".
Have the guitar chords, but need the mandolin part.
Thanks,
Anne

All I found was guitar tab at Cowpie. Maybe Snuffy will come along and help you out. Or PM him?

GUEST,AnneMC,
I would suggest that you post this request at the "mandolin cafe". I can't remember the website, but you can google it.

Is the mandolin part the same as the whistle player plays here ?

Or is it the mandolin part that Steve Earle is playing? If it's the Steve Earle bit he's only playing the chords.

If it's the whistle part it's pretty straightforward and I could do you a quick rough guide to the dots if you can't find it anywhere else

Here's an ABC file of something approaching it:

M:4/4
L:1/8

C:Steve Earle

A2B2B2 | A2F2GAG2 | F2 D2E2 ED | EFGFE2D2 | D4 :|

Go to this site and paste it into the box and submit - it should produce a midi file and a PDF of the notes.

I have a mandolin tab for it too if you want one but would need somewhere to send it to - it's pretty easy to figure though as it's all on the D and A strings and Open, 2,4 and 5!

Hope it's the right thing. There are more twiddles in what he plays on the whistle but it's not far off the basics

Thanks, Nick.
Yes, it is the whistle part of the tune, the instrumental bridge part in the Steve Earle version, that is the problem part to play on the mandolin. My husband plays mandolin throughout the tune but knows he could be better on that instrumental part which the whistle carries on the original.
Any help on that instrumental part appreciated if anyone else plays it on the mandolin.

Anne

Oh. Somehow I though snuffy was Aidan Crossey. That's who puts a lot of tabs there. Guess not, huh?

He co-wrote it with Sharon Shannon, so you may find something if you include her name in the search.

I found the notes for the bridge part if you'r still looking, it's made out for the whistle but I'm sure it's the same notes that the mandolin would use, The song has also been trainscribed to Irish with notes over each word, hope this helps.

I converted the ABC into Mandolin TAB using a program I wrote a few years ago. The TAB looks wrong here because of the proportionally spaced font.
Copy the section between the @@@@@@ lines into notepad and change the font to "Courier" or "courier new" it should then look OK.
If it works for you see thread
Tech: FREE ABC to TAB software
where you get guided to a totally free copy of the converter.

Any queries PM me

This song has now reached No1 in the Irish charts, it just goes to show what a little radio air play can do. It's been around about two years or so and all of a sudden when bulmers cider uses the song for a television advertisement it takes off.
Wouldn't it be great to get the auld folk songs into mainstream radio t.v.
When the public get a chance to hear some folk music they take to it.
I said it before and I'll say it again, shame on the radio stations that don't play our songs.

no,
it would not be great to hear traditional music used for advertisements.
I think it cheapens the music.traditional music, should be recognised and appreciated , but to use it for toothpaste adverts or selling some other consumer commodity, might bring it to the public attention, but IMO reduces its value.
