17 Mar 08 - 02:30 PM (#2290765) Subject: BS: My stray cat Tom From: GUEST,Scooby Doo I just had a phone call from the RSPCA that on Saturday night they put my stray cat Tom to sleep.I realise its the best thing for him as he had a contagious virus and lots of other illnesses that a stray picks up .My cat Whistle is looking for him in the garden, then comes in and looks at me with a sad face. The RSPCA said i would have to have my Whistle checked out too, just in case she has the illness. Can all the cat lovers on the site raise a drink to my poor old Tom tonight please. Scooby Doo. |

I've a Stray Cat myself who's moved right in, but still hears the call of the wild (translate: won't use litterbox, insists on outdoors regardless of weather or darkness, thus is subject to possible coyote predation). |

17 Mar 08 - 09:09 PM (#2291224) Subject: RE: BS: My stray cat Tom From: Charley Noble We've also adopted occasional strays and found them wonderful companions. Our last one was FIV compromised but he got on well with our two house cats, was a real gentleman. We named him Gashay, which in Ethiopian means "My Shield." He really had had a pretty hard life, as we gradually discovered from talking with out neighbors. He only lived about 6 years but he was great company and we still miss the big lug. Sorry to hear about Tom. Charley Noble |

17 Mar 08 - 10:39 PM (#2291292) Subject: RE: BS: My stray cat Tom From: Sorcha So sorry, Scooby. Years ago I had a stray tom, called him Buddy. A grey and white, beat up, non neutered fella....I think he had 'Rounds' that he made. I'd not see him for a few days, then he'd show up on the porch. Always ate. He wasn't exactly skinny either, just seemed to have been in a lot of scrapes. Divots out of both ears, etc. I never convinced him to come in the house, but if I'd go sit on the porch, he'd get in my lap and let me pet him. Then, he just stopped showing up. Yes, I still miss Buddy. No 'house cat' is quite like a stray that adopts you. |

18 Mar 08 - 10:32 AM (#2291588) Subject: RE: BS: My stray cat Tom From: GUEST,Chicken Charlie Very sorry to hear that, Scooby Doo. We have dogs now, but I retain fond memories of my mother's various eccentric cats, and her neighbor's cats, who seemed to consider her house a second home. Stray anythings that bond with you bring some gratuitous bit of worth, don't they? Sorry he's gone. Chicken Charlie |

19 Mar 08 - 07:33 PM (#2293101) Subject: RE: BS: My stray cat Tom From: ranger1 Scooby, sorry to hear about your Tom. When I was nine , I spent the entire summer taming a feral kitten, only to come home several months later to discover that my (ex)step-father had taken him to the shelter while I was at school. Leaves a big hole. |
