This song was published "The Road to Eilat in Vol. 3, Ho. 7 Of Sing Out! (1953), and also apparently as a reprint in The Hootenanny Song Book I can't find the Hootenanny book right now, and I don't have that particular issue of Sing Out.

It also appears in Lift Every Voice: The Second People's Song Book published by Oak in 1953 - edited by Irwin Silber, page 76.

Here are the lyrics:

ROAD TO EILAT
(words and music by Chaim Chefer)

Ktsat daromah live'er sheva,
ruach bamidbar noshevet,
shvil la a ravah yarad
Laradianim ach miharta,
et El Omar chish avarta
vehineh hu chof Eilat

CHORUS
Hei daromah, hei daromah
hei daromah le Eilat.

Hasufa hineh overet
Al haderech hi doheret,
Lamidbar hagodud sha-at.
Jipim kantasim karvach
Halochem rosho parvah,
Kan bederech le'Eilat!
CHORUS

Halochaym ahyaf yagaya
Al haaretz histaraya
Vechashav, hayn kach katoov
Et haaretz Beenish - bati,
Rock lachem koolah natati,
Meeny don vehad yom soof.
CHORUS

And there's one English verse by Pete Seeger:

To the southward now we travel
Through this land of rock and gravel,
Yet you know just why we sing.
Who'll bring life and grass and water,
Life to raise our sons and daughters.
Youth and life is what we bring.
Hey Daroma, Hey Daroma,
Hey Daroma, l'Eilat.

The Hebrew transliteration is like none I've ever seen before. Maybe it's an attempt at phonetic spelling. More-or-less, it's the same as what # posted above.

Not that it includes this song, there's an interesting performance of IDF songs here:

I refuse to take sides on this. There is good and bad on both sides, and I think we need to find a solution that serves everyone.
