There is something much more important than the Y2K crisis, ETERNITY!!! In 26 million years, will you even remember what happened on January 1, 2000? "Are you ready for Y2K, the year 2000? Do you know Jesus Christ as your personal savior? If not, then you aren't even ready for tomorrow." (No problem with going into the new millenium, i.e. 2001) Think about forever in Heaven or in Hell, KB

What sort of person gets people to love him by threatening them with torture? The God I meet in prayer isn't like that. The Jesus of the Gospels isn't like that. Love God because God is love-worthy. No other reason counts.

"It is the nature of a civilisation dominated by fundamentalist religions to find so-called evil within other denominations which do not adhere to its beliefs. Satan is basically a usurpation of symbolism and invention of the Christian church meant to scare people into conforming to its particular beliefs.

"From the Metaphysical Bible Dictionary, the ancient Aramaic translation of Satan is defined as `lier in wait; accuser;,etc.' The metaphysical or symbolic meaning is defined as, `the deceiving phase of mind in man that has fixed ideas of Truth.'

"Humankind's ego, negative thoughts and actions are manifestations of the accusing or critical consciousness which is out of harmony with God.

"The history of many Christian churches is one of diviseness, hatred, genocide, and subjugation of native peoples all over the world and among fellow Christians of differing beliefs.

"In its aftermath is a legacy of continued hatred and self-righteousness which does not reflect the kindness, balance, and open-mindedness of true Christianity. During this age of Aquarius, we see reflected in paganism, some Christian churches, and other faiths, the true principles of balance, non-violence, peace, love, and harmony that Jesus taught."

Thanks, Shamb. Did you see Rick's note about his friend's song, "Til All Thy Names Are One"? Beautiful song. He sang it on his radio show a couple of weeks ago. I'll see if I can find it. I think it is in the Rick Fielding's radio show thread.

Campfire, no prob! I am a mix of so much, I figure I've got 16ths in me! Hell, maybe even 64ths!

There's been a lot of research done on who Jesus was and what he actually said. I won't go in to too much detail, but from the reputable sources I've read, about %20-%30 of what's in the bible can be verified as having been part of his teachings, with the rest being tacked on over the years in various religions to put more of an angle on 'enforcement'.

Being devoutly non-Christian, I still say that from what I believe are his actual teachings, that he was a wonderful person and I wish I could have met and spoken to him.

Other than that, put me down on the side of 'Organized religion (Christian and otherwise) has done more to exalt humanity than any other force in existence, as well as having done more to destroy it' (Can't remember who said it, but I'm pretty sure that's the quote)

Just remembered the person I couldn't remember earlier...

Joseph Campbell has done a LOT of research in this area. One of his (many) books is a detailed dissection of the Old Testament, with historical backing and research on all events therein.

Don't agree with everything he says, but he DOES give one a whole lot to think about.

Allan C. : I wrote this for a phone message in the spring of 1998:

The Sun is growing stronger
With each day a little longer,
Seeds await in darkness cool,
A dormant promise of Spring's renewal.

And, in the Spring of 1995, when it didn't seem winter was ever going to be over:

Has Spring sprung?
Is Winter done?
Say "one" for Yes, or
"Two" for No
And, we'll see which
Way the wind does blow!

Shambles, now that you mention it, so can I. It was something my father used to recite. One of his others was:

I wish I was a little egg
A-sittin' in a tree
So I could fall out of my nest
And cover thee with me

Kat, I love your spring poems! I also have very much enjoyed the various quotes you have shared - especially those from your own writings.

Yeesh.

As a Jew, I often feel like a cat in a room full of rocking chairs when everybody starts talking about Jesus, Satan, damnation, and all that other good stuff. My skin starts to crawl and a voice inside says: Get out of here before somebody see you and says "Look, a Jew; let's get him!"

100% wica, 20% tolerant. ------------ A joke: Jesus, Joseph, and Mary were doing chores around their home in Nazareth when suddenly, Jesus ran outside to Joseph, and asked,

"Did you call me?"

"No, I'm sorry," Joseph replied, "I just hit my thumb with the hammer...again." ------------- Happy Wed.

I didn't even know you were Jew and it doesn't matter to me. I enjoy your postings, even when we don't agree and would hope you would not feel compelled, by the voices *smile* to leave.

Would it make you feel any better, Matthew if I told you all Christians weren't anti-semitic. Heck, there's a vicious rumor goin around that even JESUS was a Jew! Of course, as Kinky Friedman says "they just ain't makin' Jews like Jesus anymore."

The Paradox The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints; we spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it less.

We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time; we have more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgment; more experts, but more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We learned how to make a living, but not a life; We've added years to life, not life to years.

We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor.

We've conquered outer space, but not inner space; we've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul; we've split the atom, but not our prejudice; we have higher incomes, but lower morals; we've become long on quantity, but short on quality.

These are the times of tall men, and short character; steep profits, and shallow relationships. These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare; more leisure, but less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition.

These are the days of two incomes, but more divorce; of fancier houses, but broken homes. It is a time when there is much in the show window and nothing in the stockroom; a time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to make a difference or just hit delete.

Dearest kat,

Of course you have never made me feel uncomfortable. You're all cuddly and yummy and fun. I just get that way when the bible-thumping evangelical energy in the room gets too high. I get very wary when I'm around massive gatherings of "the converted." The rallies at Nuremburg in 1939 were considered to be joyful events by those present, but the repercussions were not.

I am certainly not Christo-phobic. I even love Christmas, and most Christian songs. (I used to sing a capella sacred music of the Renaissance with the Renaissance Street Singers.) I even admire its teachings. I just ain't inclined that way myself. Many of my closest, dearest friends are devout Christians, and on rare occasions I have even joined them in prayer (God knows I need it)... but only when they fill the room with love (as opposed to Messianic fervor).
