29 Jun 08 - 11:50 PM (#2377092) Subject: RE: BS: Interesting Videos From: Ron Davies Re: the cellos. No way will that ever come close to Dvorak, Haydn, etc. It seems a real shame if that sort of pandering is necessary to fill a concert hall. Yes, in some ways, I am a real conservative, reactionary, whatever you want to call it. If this be treason, make the most of it. The piece sure did point up the vast superiority of classical music in a lot of ways---that wonderful opus was singularly lacking in, say, any development of the theme whatsoever. And they say Tchaikovsky doesn't have enough development in his symphonies. But I certainly do agree that long hair you can throw around is a plus in a concert hall--lots of classical artists have latched onto that. And I agree it's fun to see that. |

04 Feb 10 - 10:34 PM (#2830439) Subject: RE: BS: Interesting Videos From: CarolC Interesting story about those Winter Soldier videos, and one of the cool things about Facebook... Scott Camil, one of the guys in the video, friended me (out of the blue) in Facebook a little while ago. I didn't know who he was, and I really didn't know anything about him, not even where he saw my name in order to request friendship. Because his status updates show up on my wall, I started to learn things about him, including his participation in the Winter Soldier testimonies. I've learned a lot of other interesting things about him, too. I'm very impressed with what I've learned, and very grateful to the technology that has enabled me to get to know people I might not ever have known about otherwise. I know facebook has a lot of problems, but I'm grateful nonetheless. |
