I thought the w/end ticket price of £10 outstanding until I saw this part:

'Festival camp site is available to season ticket holders only, and camping costs are £7.00 per unit per night plus 50p per person in that unit per night. '

Calculating a 4 night stay just for one person brings the price up to £30 for camping + £10 season ticket = £40

Having cammped down around Dorset/Cornwall over the last few years £7.00 per night is well below the average of £12-16 per night so while it may seem costly it is all relitive. We will be there and yes we will be camping!!

George! I POSTED A NEW THREAD LAST NIGHT!!!!!!!
Great minds obviously think alike!

Mr Happy, The camping is out of our control! As No Fixed Abode stated, most of the campsites round here are charging over £10 per night! We have made use of the Rugby Club and they have decided the price, not us. It is a very convenient location and much closer to the venues than any of Bude's other camp sites.

Camping is only availanle Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, so for the 3 nights that would be £22.50 for one person plus £10 ticket (£32.50). Camping for Four people, staying in one unit would cost £27.00. Add to that the fact that Season tickets only apply to persons Over 16 years old - so if it was a family of 4 with 2 kids under 16 the weekend would cost £47 including tickets and camping for the 4 of them! Now I don't think thats too bad!

We are trying to run a great little festival whilst keeping costs as low as possible for visitors, we ourselves have put our heart and soul into this over the last few months with precious little in the way of funding. But then you can't please all the people all of the time..........especially if their name is Mr Happy, apparently!

Mr Red we have ceilidhs on the Saturday and Sunday nights this year, though I agree Chippenham is more of a dance festival. We have had real problems trying to get some morris sides to come, as they all appear to be heading to Chippers - if there are any dancers at a loose end that weekend, we would love you to come and brighten up the streets of Bude!

I am really looking forward to the weekend too there is talk of a mudgather for thiose of you who are keen, watch this space........

We're probably going to down early for Bideford FC on the Thursday, anyone else thinking of doing the same?

BTW, who'll be coming to the MudGather on the Saturday? I'm not sure that chocolate will be a good idea for this one as we'll be in a Brasserie, but it's a really good venue for a Meet & Sing!

I hope you can make it on Thursday, Hils.

We'd be delighted to see anyone else who's on their way to Bude at Bideford Folk Club on the Thursday night.
It's at the Joiners Arms in Market Place, Bideford. The 'official start' is 8.30 but we can't wait that long so we usually kick off soon after 8.0pm. This week it's a singaround (as it is most weeks)

I'm hoping to run Herbaceous Border at Bude on both the Saturday and the Sunday. As usual I'm on the look out for musicians and dancers. Thanks, Bubblyrat, for volunteering. Now I need a few more willing volunteers. Please!!!!

Sue

Sue, am looking forward to hearing everyone at Bideford this time, will attempt to get along for the start but you know what we're like. Our caravan is booked in to Pyewell but it's CC members only I'm afraid. Think Les & Carys have found somewhere too, it'll be a Fab evening!

What a brilliant line-up you've got for Bude Lucy! Have just turfed out my cracker tin & it'll be refreshed by Thursday, cheeses are maturing nicely. I'm already feeling sorry for poor Richard who's having to do all the driving, it'll be quite a while before I get my grip back enough to help out so I might be grateful for a lift here or there.....

Keeping my fingers crossed for good weather, it's started to brighten up here today so it'll be one-handed gardening for me *grin*

Well, we survived, knackered and humbly grateful to all who came and made this weekend such a wonderful event.
Thanks to all participants whether your input was great or small, steward, performer or dog's body.
Stu at the Rugby Club is already planning next year - so I Guess we are going to have to do it all over again!
We apologise for the weather, though it was out of our control this year, we have decided to appoint a weather steward to communicate with mother earth and the great sun god in the sky for next years event. Perhaps a week later may make it better!
The line up of wonderful artists one again DID NOT disappoint! thank you all so much for stunning performances, you really made the weekend the success it was. Georges P & W (Grecko and Stopper) you were BOTH greatly missed and we will accept NO excuses for not being able to come next year! ;0)
Im still walking on air and living on adrenaline, and quite frankly, I donn't really want to come down to earth! Thank you all again for a great weekend

Oddly enough, I was there as well ! ( although you'd never know it from reading the above !! ) ----And yes !--it was a GREAT little festival, and "Stu" WAS great and friendly and welcoming, and the weather was a problem for those with just tents, but not for those with caravans. Sadly, those who COULD " Dance the Morris" didn't, and on the 2 occasions when Herbaceous Border tried to do something, it / we only attracted a few children & the odd parent---So hardly surprising that Sue cancelled it on Sunday !! But the sun did shine on the odd occasion, walks were taken on the beach, and the sessions in the Falcon Hotel and the Rugby Club were brilliant----" Bobbing Up And Down " should be made COMPULSORY at all future " Budes " ! Very well done, and thankyou, Lucy and Kevin !!

Where do I get my stamina?
Friday, Saturday and Sunday a total of 72 hours.....sleep = 13 hours
Awake = 59 hours!
I think it was adrenaline and alcohol mix, and the desire to ensure everyone (including me) had a good time!

No Fixed Abode - hope you got back without any more catastrophes! Tony, your tumble on Sunday night was spectacular, I hope you werent too sore the next day! What a great couple you are, (If anyone out there is looking for a greatduo to enhance their festival, these two will join in and really be a part of the festival.) Im so glad you asked if you could come - and i hope you will come back!

I do have photos and will get them on an accesible place when I have a moment - have to do show to family audience tomorrow, Real thing at Blisland on Friday and again at Leedstown on Saturday, so bit busy at moment! For those of you who left before the survivors session in The Falcon, it was fantastic and memorable for the rendiditon onf Ghost chickens by the last couple of Hanging Johnny lads. I have a video which i shall try to post somewhere too.

Hils, Thanks for the mudgather! WOW Basserie Hot Chocolates were almost better than yours - perhaps at the next festival I'll bring the marshmallows and flakes! I really missed the snoring Koala in rehearsals yesterday - without it the song now just lacks that je ne sais quoi!!!

Cheers, Lucy

No Lucy, it's not at the end of the river by the campsite, it's at the end of the river next to the campsite..... No, that's not right either....

The river that is at the side of the camp site ends in the sea about 7 minutes walk away?????

That's certainly more precise Lucy, are we definitely agreed that it's 'that' river? *grin*

Absolutely! Its The river Neet, it flows into Bude and under Nanny Moore's Bridge to the sea!
The path we walked along (when you cross the bridge by the rugby Club first) goes between the River Neet and Bude canal, an unusual canal with lock gates that open into the sea. This passes in front of The Brasserie and was empty during the festival due to a storm partially ripping the lock gate off on one side. They decided to bring forward the dredging planned for next year forward to avoid draining it twice. Next year it should be returned tom its former glory. Bude has 2 beaches, Summerleaze, which is where the River Neet and the canal open into and further down, Crooklets beach.
Cheers Lucy.

We had a walk down to Summerleaze beach, and back via the sea-lock, and very nice it was,too ! But I was anxious all night on Monday night, listening to the endless rain hammering on the caravan roof, and wondering if the rugby -field would flood---But of course, it didn't !! The drainage must be better than I thought, and the river Neet looked positively calm and benign ,complete with canoeists, on Tuesday morn !! Hurry up with the photos, Lucy !!

Huge thanks to everyone who was involved in making the weekend such a success. My special thanks to the musicians who played for Herbaceous Border (esp Roger who played at both sessions). It certainly was a struggle getting dancers - I was chuffed when the 3 ladies who worked in the Castle Tea Rooms came out and had a go. On Sunday, when the weather started off so bad, I think there would have been even fewer people around.

Lucy - As for tonight - I know I've already sent my good wishes via Crowdercref, but there's no harm in sending them again! I'm so looking forward to seeing the new show at Bideford FF in August.

Sue

Cats, I was trying to keep the jewellery buying part of our day quiet, to make us seem more business-like ...*g*
