30 Apr 08 - 01:46 PM (#2329925) Subject: Mudcat Move Update From: Max OK folks. Looks like the move of the mudcat servers is happening tonight, probably starting at about 10pm EST. The address changes should start propogating just before and following then. Some will have access before others because of the nature of the internet. I expect to be fully back in action within 24 hours, even though the experts say 48. My family is settled in a very messy money pit, I mean house. The move went well, though we arived to find a broken heater, no heat or hot water and a broken fridge and freezer. The kids are being very good as usual which is helping a great deal. Very tired, very stressed, but moving in the right direction. We moved about 15 miles from West Chester Pennsylvania to a town called Downingtown. Don't worry about the mudcat being a burden on me, I also run other things on the servers that are very critical to me and many other peoples livings. So the servers must go up anyway. Thanks for all your support and kind words. I'll be in touch. |

30 Apr 08 - 01:57 PM (#2329938) Subject: RE: Mudcat Move Update From: John MacKenzie Moving house, bereavement, and divorce, are the three most stressful 'life' events they say. I would say you have chosen the easy option of the three. Hope all goes OK. Giok |
30 Apr 08 - 02:01 PM (#2329946) Subject: RE: Mudcat Move Update From: Max The snail mail address is OK for a while. The Mudcat Cafe PO Box 3006 West Chester, PA 19381 I'll be keeping that for a while. Another question I heard asked: The mudcat will be physically located in the lower level of the house (it's a raised ranch/bi-level), which means, yes, technically in the basement again. However, it is by far the nicest room in the house. Brand new hardwood floors, lots of windows, lots of light, granite wet bar, full bathroom... In addition to housing the mudcat servers, it will also be the official music room (finally!). A Hammond Organ, a 19th century pump organ, guitars, banjos, accordians, dobros, flutes, kazoos, drums and so on. I'll send pictures of the house, the music room and the children as soon as things settle down a bit. Wish me luck and send me your prayers, I need them now more than ever. |

30 Apr 08 - 03:45 PM (#2330056) Subject: RE: Mudcat Move Update From: Big Mick I never worry about this stuff, Max. You have shown, time and again, that you cherish your creation and will go to extraordinary lengths to insure its well being. I remember back when you were a young man (***chuckle***) and how amazed I was at your grasp of how important this little village has become in the lives of folks from around the world, and how it had literally become a world wide community of friends, both met and unmet. I remember how it troubled you a bit, as you pondered the responsibility of all that. And I will always be grateful that in spite of those thoughts, you simply kept it going through thick and thin. I can't help but smile as I think about the mental image in my mind of your apartment with the Mudcat servers in the bedroom. I can't help but smile when I think of the baby being born. I remember the first broadcasts of Mudcat radio, and how I laughed when I came to be on it, and saw the wires running out the window and down to the pub next door. Great stuff, eh? Wish you luck? I'll not only wish you luck, but I send you my sincerest love and affection, little brother. Let me know if there is anything we can do. And save me a spot on Mudcat Radio when it happens once more. There are such things as tradition, you know. All the best, Mick |

Tell ya' though Max, while the new place sounds great, I think you need a lovely housewarming gift for the family room. I was thinking maybe I could commission a nice piece of sculpture or something................you know, something cool and a yet a conversational incentive.........I was thinking along the lines of oh, say, Brutus Buckeye buttfucking a blue and white coated lion with a huge smile on the cat's face. That'd be a nice piece anywhere from the bar to the TV top to out by the mailbox or even the front door to greet visitors. Lemmee know if that would go with your plans for decor. Spaw |

30 Apr 08 - 07:13 PM (#2330211) Subject: RE: Mudcat Move Update From: Max Joe, thanks for reminding me about the IP. Until the net delivers to all of you, you will all be able to access the mudcat via the IP as soon as I get the server over here, which should be about 1 hour after I shut it down. That IP is: 96.245.158.7 So instead of putting http://www.mudcat.org/whatnot You put http://96.245.158.7/whatnot That is, if I remember to set that up to accept incoming requests... I knew someone would comment about the drums. Spaw: I would graciously accept your kind gift if Brutus didn't embarass all the schools within the Big 10 conference for the 2nd straight year. I see why he'd want to give it to a lion after getting it from a tiger. Should happen a little earlier than expected, say 9pm EST. You should be able get back in via the IP by 10 or 11. |
