A small but kind of important correction to the lyrics posted above. The French phrase is "Ç'est la vie," not "Cest la vie." It's a contraction of "Ça est" ("It" or "That" and "is"). |

It's written in the third person, which could help to make it a folk song in time. As a cheerful, optimistic song, it's always been one of my favourites. To my mind Chuck Berry was the wittiest and most articulate of all of that first wave of R&R songwriters. |
