First, I'll try a blue clicky to this wonderful, week long festival in North Devon, England

Bideford Folk Festival

Will it work? I'll try it and see!

YES!! So now you can look up all the information from the Saturday Headline concert with Fiddlers' Bid (from Shetland) John Kirkpatrick and Isambarde through a mass of smaller concerts and events to many opportunites to sing, dance or play.

Unique to this festival is a singing cruise out to Lundy Island on the Oldenburg (costs extra, I'm afraid!).

My highlights will be the Cornwall Songwriters' new show Cornish Lads (on Tuesday evening) and two of my favourite singers - Barrie and Ingrid Temple. Look out too for Nicola Clark and then there's 'Leraud' and 'Wuzzle' and.........

I'll be running a series of workshops Tue-Fri for solo singers who are fairly new to singing on their own or maybe haven't yet plucked up courage to do so. (PM me for further information)

'Herbaceous Border' may happen at some time over the weekend - let me know if you would like to dance or play.

Sue

Hi BrenKen
Do come and say hello! I'm MCing the singaround in the Joiners Arms on Monday evening (8-11) and the Tuesday afternoon in the Bethel so do come and say hello.
There are lots of good concerts on during the week as well. Personally I dont go for the big headline acts, but there are lots of smaller events with people I really want to listen to.
Hope you have a great time.

Sue

I'm also doing the Sunday Morning Chorus up at Edgehill with Barrie and Ingrid so come along with Sunday songs and ones with loads of chorus and a couple of concert spots. Look forward to seeing you all there.

Superb week. It was good to meet you Bren Boru. Highlight of the week for me was James Findlay [OK I am biased, I've known him since he was 5]. Seriously he took everywhere apart whenever he performed whether it was a concert or a session in the pub. Look out for him and book him for your folk club or festival now. The tradition is in safe hands with him and many other young performers from this weekend. Les Barker was his own inimitable self. Great to see Barrie and Ingrid Temple. Lovely people, lovely songs. Thanks to Hilary and Jerry and all their team. We'll be back next year.

We had a great time, we were there Sunday 10th to Thursday morning, well done all, a fabulous festival, blown away by some amazingly talented youth at this years festival, Coracle and James Findlay were amazing, We did the new show Cornish Lads to a sell out audience, and what a receptive audience you were! We really enjoyed ourselves!
Bren Boru, were you the irish chap at The Joiners with the No Anchor T shirt on?
If so, it was nice to meet you!
If not, sorry to have missed you!
Hope all got off the camp site OK, we had to be towed off on Thursday and it still hasn't stopped raining. Shame the Lundy trip was cancelled, but there's alwayd next time!
Cheers, Lucy

Back home last night. Andy and I had a lovely lovely week. Camped by lots of friends, always a good thing to do.

Lots of good singarounds and I am a bit more confident that when we first went to Bideford 2 years ago.

concerts: Again lots of them and all good.

As always the locals were sooo friendly and helpful.

And............Fish and chips on the sea front are to die for. Never tasted fish like it!

Jerry: always running but the smile never leaving his face.
Hilary: always busy also always smiling.
Gate stewards: friendly and helpful
Graham the bus: Above and beyond. should have taken his break but said he couldn't while we were waiting. What a star.

Well done to everyone and thank you for make it such a good festival.

Jillie

Forgot to mention Fiddlers Bid. What stunning fiddlers, what lovely people. It wasn't that I was hanging on their every word, I was trying to understand their fabulous Shetland accents.

I had a great time in the Joiners, so many talented folk, so many great songs. I'm going to have to learn some of them for next year so that I can join in the chorus.

Cats: I really enjoyed the storytelling too.

Pat and I had a very good time. Jerry and Hilary's organisational skills were amazing. We felt the festival was welcome by the residents of Bideford and Cleverdons, the restaurant, did an excellent job opening between 5:30 and 7:00 each day to enable us to eat good, reasonably priced food, and listen to a variety of guests who were booked at the festival.

There were ample opportunities for participation of every kind and it was wonderful to meet old friends and make new ones.

One of the highlights for us was the success of the festival choir. If anyone who was in the choir reads this, a big thank you for your efforts.

Thanks for your kind comments about the storytelling. It so often the 'forgotten' element of folk festivals. Perhaps we should ask for late night ghost stories next year?
