14 Jul 08 - 04:14 PM (#2388884) Subject: BS: Miccas Great Adventure From: Micca I know this a sort of Son of "Wheres Micca? or as Ranger1 has put it "the Travelocity gnome is on the move again" Well, I have got my online boarding pass printed out and in less than 24 hours I am off on The Great Adventure, I am flying out from Heathrow (Terminal 4!!!! whew, thank heavens not 5) and will report in and post pics as I may along the way, on a journey that is going to be 3 major stages and some minor ones and be about 20,000 miles long and include visiting a number of mudcatters, some I've met before and some I haven't!! watch this space for another thrilling episode. |

Bert(mudcat) met me at the airport off the plane fron Alaska after a Very early start and brought me here. Tomorrow is also a very early start,the Taxi is ordered for 6 am!!! I could see the Rocky mountains as we came into Denver, and I am looking forward to the train journey. What started out to be a quiet dinner with KT yesterday evening went down hill when a few of the friends I have made during this visit came over and we had a good sing together and much hilarity. there are pix and I will put them up when I can, I am amazed at the number and quality of the friends I am making and meeting on this trip, as the toast (Free Toast!!!) went round last night, "Friends!!!!" |

KT--I grew up in the Puget Sound area, north of Seattle. We have very healthy crops of the stuff in the understory, and I've had to let more than a few of the spines fester before they finally worked their way out of my hide. Bert, it looks like Micca had a good visit--and the kids look great! Such sweeties! Kat, we have an Amtrak station here in Fort Worth. If you'd just send him on down the line, we could use the rain. You need boots, of course, but if you step on the devils club near its base it lies fairly flat and will displace your weight in preparation for your next step. Much easier to navigate than the wimpy but rebellious alder hells we have here. Of course, if the Club swings at you and connects---! I remember one time when I worked at the house museum a park ranger stopped by and asked if I could get some spines out of his head. The problem was that the ranger's hair, while short, is very blond so the almost-transparent spines didn't show. I didn't really help him at all. |

I have finally met Kat and Rog after 10 years of waiting and planning, we had dinner together, more tomorrow, it is now 10.15 0n a day that started at 5am!!! |

Rog and I had a blast over dinner with him; the two of them killed a largish bottle of wine while the cats, dog and I drank water. Well, I had my chocolate rice milk, too. Oh, and the dog didn't even bark, Trystan offered his cathole for a lick or sniff, which Micca declined, and Kipling-shy cat even came out for a sashay round. More fun, tomorrow! |

So, here I am waiting to catch the shuttle bus to Denver Airport in about 45 mins for the flight to Boston and on to Maine, where, I understand, The Apocslypse will begin on Saturday!!! (or is that just the opening Band), Morty, your lFU wishes he could have fitted you in the luggage too, you would have enjoyed this sooooo much, as someone said in a PM(or post) I am having WAY too much fun, and all because Morty talked me into looking at this website in August 99, Still Sailor vie as the French say!! gotta go and pack HLVB Micca |

I have returned Chez Sinsull, after a very nice dinner eith Ranger1 and her bloke and Sins and am suitably fed and watered and have a glass of wine in my hand, all is well with the world, I hope to go to the Press Room, tomorrow, so anyone going from Portland, with a spare seat please let me know and I will cadge a lift, It is good to be back in Maine, few things are better in life than having the warmth of your friends around you, Viva La compagne!!!! |

An example of the kind of lovely people I met on this trip. I was at Denver Union Station waiting for the (inevitably) late California Zephyr to Grand Junction Colorado and got talking to a lady and her daughter and husband(he was not travelling) they knew about Folk music and we had a nice chat,. The Lady was carrying some craft materials to pass time on the train. Eventually we boarded, they were seated elsewhere on the train. Some hours into the journey the lady sought me out at my seat and presented me with a beautifully hand stitched book made from hand made paper that she had made. Its things like that that really lift the spirit even if the spirit is already high!!! I feel everywhere I have been I have met with courtesy and kindness from both friends and strangers, from Alaska to Maine. From the homeland Security person who kept their sense of humour when the gate chimed for the 6th time I tried to pass due to the pair of carabieners on my belt loop, to the guy on the flight from Denver who had the tall and beautiful blonde he was chatting up switched for a scruffy(ish) Gnome!!! My sincere thanks to them all. |

I'd barely get out of bed for one of them fruity pies. Pie by its very nature is about as unhealthy a thing as you can get. I mean they're filled with cholesterol, butterfats, lard, mountains of all sorts of sugars...........Christ on a crutch, the damn things are death baked in a pan! But we throw some half-assed fruit in them and tell ourselves they have some redeeming dietary value......they don't! So let's just not kid ourselves (you can't kid your heart and arteries----I know this for a fact) and let's eat some really fine pies that throw all caution to the wind and all the friggin' fruit out for the birds to eat. I'd suggest a pie that will harden every blood vessel in your body, completely occlude the coronary arteries, add an additional 12 pounds of body fat, AND rot your teeth while you are eating it!!! No need to wait! Perhaps one of you Maine folks could crank out a few of these babies before Micca leaves.......... ********************************************************************** BUTTERMILK PIE(makes 2 pies)Make up two of your favorite recipe deep dish pie shells or but a couple of premade....your choice. Brown them a bit before adding the filling. FILLING: Ingredients: 5 Cups Granulated Sugar 6 Tablespoons Flour 10 Tablespoons Butter 6 Eggs 3 Cups Buttermilk 2 teaspoons Vanilla 2 teaspoons vinegar Combine the sugar and flour. Melt the butter in a separate bowl then mix in the eggs,buttermilk,vanilla,and vinegar. Mix well!!! Add in the sugar/flour and continue mixing.....good mixing is important. Pour the filling mixture into the pie shells and bake at 350 for 45-60 minutes (clean toothpick check). Let cool and EAT!!! ********************************************************************** Have a supply of antacid handy and if any kids in the area partake, some rope to tie them up is helpful too. He was very pleased, and actually blushed. As to bears, on this morning's walk my Meggie went into full warning mode because there is a new, very large, fake bear on the veranda of a shop. I finally had to pick her up and take her to the bear to show her that it wasn't real. She gave one final growling, muttering mfff! and lost interest in it. She's had enough run-ins with the real thing. |
