Col K - still missed on his birthday

It would have been his birthday today - and I know lots of 'Catters would just love to still be able to give him a birthday kiss or buy him a pint and get one of his famous hugs. He's very missed at most festivals and still in our hearts. Sing one for him in memory.

We sang for him in Saddleworth - I am sure Warwick are missing him this weekend as we all do.

I've talked to him mum today and she's doing alright. Still missing him badly of course, as am I. She's STILL trying to sort through the bags she brought from his house, which will hopefully be sold and completed by the end of August - as she said "probably the day to a year that he died".

Most of all she's really missing her share of Col Hugs. If you meet her please give her a hug.

Love and hugs
Tig

Colin is sadly missed by every one that knew him, I hope I'll leave such fond memories when I go, what a legacy.

Gulliver - we're talking about Colin Kemp, a lovely man. The following was his Obit in the Saddleworth Folk Festival programme:

Colin Kemp was a stalwart of the folk scene, going to folk festivals up and down the country. He was a particular friend of Saddleworth Folk Festival, and attended every one from the beginning. For the first five or six years he was one of the chief stewards, providing sound advice to the committee, and was always on call through the night on the campsite, should any problems arise.
Colin was a well known, smiley face at all the festivals, always ready to provide support and a huge bear hug that just made you feel so much better! He either stewarded, sang with the Shellback Chorus, or both. Everyone knew him – all loved him - and when he died on August 31st 2007, shock waves ran through the folk world. It was evident from numbers attending his funeral that he will be sorely missed for a long time.
I will miss him greatly in Saddleworth – the festival weekend won't be the same without him for me. Who's going to lift people bodily out of the mud on the campsite? Who's going to deliver those big bear hugs? Who's going to be there ready to listen, or with a drink if you need it, or provide a shoulder to cry on? Colin, you're a star, and you will never be forgotten.

It was very moving to remember Col on stage with the Shellbacks at Saddleworth. I asked Jim (Harrison) to be a book-end at one stage and he said he couldn't because he didn't have his mate with him.

It's funny how we all remember in different ways, but it's certain that Col is stilled missed by great many people on the Folk circuit - I can't see that ever changing...............

The hug was passed around at the final concert at Warwick last night. Only trouble is it didn't hug back. Also noone mentionned the RNLI then so didn't realise a collection was being made. It was particularly poignant being at Warwick on his birthday having celebrated it there many times before. We were camped on Colin Kemp Way with all the other stewards who worked with him over the years. He certainly leaves a big gap!

I must admit that I couldn't bring myself to have that hug, because it wouldn't have been the same.I started to well up when Keith brought it onto the stage and said what it was.
God bless, Colin.

He's still missed in the U.S., too, by those who met him at the Getaway and elsewhere. We were talking about him just about 2 weeks ago in fact.

You couldn't miss him at Warwick.

His ghost was there - called Colin Kemp Close.

It's actually a sweatshirt Micca. All this Great Adventure is obviously damaging your little brain cell.

The Shellback shirts only went to Shellbacks in this country but when his mum gave me this last time I saw her I checked with the Shells. Both parties were delighted to have it come to the Silent Auction as it would be what Col would have wanted.

Hugs
