28 Jul 08 - 11:38 AM (#2399472) Subject: Manchester Cotton Industry Project From: Mark Dowding On Sunday August 10th 2008 at John Ryland's library on Deansgate in Manchester from 3-00 to 4-30pm, Chris Harvey and myself will be taking part in a project about the cotton industry in Manchester from the early days up to post war and its decline. The talk has been written by Samantha Franks of the University of Manchester and will be read by my partner Maggi whom some of you will know. Samantha contacted me at an early stage to enquire about the songs she could incorporate and Chris and myself suggested a number of suitable songs from the Manchester Ballads collection and some of the songs sung by Harry Boardman. Entry for the free event is by ticket which can be obtained by ringing 0161 305 0555. The event is rapidly becoming full so if you want to come along then please ring sooner rather than later! Hopefully see some of you there. Cheers Mark |

29 Jul 08 - 09:37 AM (#2400249) Subject: RE: Manchester Cotton Industry Project From: Les in Chorlton I just checked with John Rylands, I think the umber is 306 0555 not 305 0555, but that's all a bit academic (sorry about that) as they only have one ticket left! You will soon be rich and famous Mark Cheers L in C |

29 Jul 08 - 10:34 AM (#2400310) Subject: RE: Manchester Cotton Industry Project From: Mark Dowding I spoke to Jacqui at the library earlier on today who said that they may let people in for standing room only but I presume there is a limit due to fire regs and Health & Safety etc so it may not be the case. There will be a booklet available with the script, illustrations and all the song words so you can all join in the choruses where appropriate! Sorry about the phone number - I could say it was an intelligence test and you all passed! (I must check my source) I think it's great that we've been approached to provide authentic song illustration written by people like Sam Laycock and John Trafford Clegg who were at the sharp end of the industry. Thanks to Samantha and Jacqui for getting in touch with me. See you on the 10th August if you got a ticket. Cheers Mark |
