His Worship & the Pig, Lewes Arms, 9 Aug

The excellent Dave Boulton and Jeff Parton, otherwise known as His Worship & the Pig, are at the Lewes Arms
on Saturday 9th. August on a rare trip from Stoke-on-Trent. Admission is £5,floor singers are welcome, and we start with a few join-in tunes. We stay open during August with singarounds on the other Saturdays, but this weekend we're giving ourselves and our friends a holiday treat.

Dave and Jeff write and perform thoughtful, incisive and often very funny songs (such as 'Hang 'em and flay 'em and flog 'em'. They play guitar, mandolin, octave mandola, English concertina, Indian harmonium, whistle, shakey egg and rubber glove.

Fidjit, if you're there, it was good to see you last week and to discover that Morris dancing is flourishing in Sweden!

Tootle pip,

Valmai

And banjos, of course ... how could I forget the banjos? I must have been concentrating too deeply on the rubber glove.

This could make someone's fortune if mass-produced.

By the way, might the reason the girl gives the bloke the raspberry in the song 'The Gardener' be that, when he offers to clothe her entirely in flowers, he says,

'Your gloves shall be the marigold
All glittering to your hand?'

Great to know they are still performing as I seem to remember hearing they had retired.

I think they hail from Tamworth rather that Stoke hence the "Pig" bit.

"If you had a Brain you'd be Dangerous" was always a favourite of mine.

Definitely from the potteries Dave(Acorn4): I used to go to their folk club in the Kings Arms, Stoke when they were running it with others from Muggins Fancy.   I seem to remember Jeff said that, although they were always asked which one was His Worship, their name actually came from some story about a mayor of Stoke and a pig (not the same as the one about a prime minister and a pig!) - but then you never knew what to believe from him and Dave.

"the men with the skill in their hands" is from
"Mountains and Men"
on... 'Laugh or Cry Same Price'.

I got a cd from Jeff tonight.
Just got to find a way of getting it to you.

I'm sure this didn't come up previously but...
