Sorry, Beer. I can't see YouTube stuff. What is it you've found?

Pasted and copied from the e-mail I received.

A CANADIAN GIRL LIVING IN VANCOUVER WHO SILENCED THE WORLD FOR FIVE (5) MINUTES AT THE UNITED NATIONS.
SHE KEPT THE SHAMELESS UN LEADERS/REPRESENTATIVE SPELL- BOUND, AND WHAT AROUND OF APPLAUSE.

Thanks, A. Nothing wrong with the link, just the machine that's trying to access it. :)

Maeve... if you are trying to use Firefox to view it, it might be why. I have problems viewing video clips on webpages with it. They work fine with that crap program Internet Explorer though

(and happy belated!)

Thanks for that link Beer. I found her speech really moving. It's pretty bad that she recorded that sixteen years ago and nothing's changed much. Guess the applause was for the cameras. I don't think anything she said counts for much when it's up against the mighty Dollar (or Pound, or Euro)!

My radio audience are in for a surprise next week when I play that clip during my show.

note- YouTube ***REQUIRES*** javascript be enabled to play videos.

If you, as I do, control your javascript at times to control pop-ups and such, you should enable it before trying to access YouTube, as the cookie YouTube sets in your browser cache will prevent you from enabling it after once going to YouTube and discovering it doesn't work.

You would have to either: close your browser & re-open it OR clear the cache...then enable javascript before trying the link again.

I forget about once a week....and it took me several months to figure out why I could sometimes see videos & sometimes not.

Eddie,
Ask your audience if they can guess when the speech was made. This will stress the point that nothing has changed but just got worst. I do not consider myself a pessimist but after watching this clip, maybe I should be.

Nothing wrong with the message but am I alone in finding that a precocious teenager telling me what I should do is annoying? I know she is not addressing me personaly and if I had the opportunity to address such an assembly the message would be very similar. But such phrases as 'to tell you adults you must change your ways' does nothing to endear her to us 'adults'! Why, in fact, does she think that all us 'adults' think in the same way as the people who are ruining our planet? Why does she think that I can do something about it any more than she can? I guess it is because she is young and I am old, therefore the 'enemy'? I remember being just the same. Thinking that someone must be at fault and that someone was, in turn, parents, adults and god. May as well blame the Bolivian unicyclists for all the good it will do. Maybe a middle line between youthful exhuberance and adult cynicism would be better?

Cheers

Dave

A truly stirring message. As for being a pessimist, remember that Pete Seeger(and many others,I am sure,) have seen and heard almost all and still remain stubbornly optimistic.Although having said that, I still lean to the side of pessimism;in the realities of this world it's really hard to "put on a happy face".
