06 Sep 08 - 10:16 AM (#2432569) Subject: RE: Stanley Holloway vinyl From: JJ My recording of 'ERE'S 'OLLOWAY is on Columbia (ML 5162). Because the liner notes recommend the original cast recording of MY FAIR LADY and because Holloway sings with the Loverly Quartet from the Broadway production, I believe the recording to have been made in New York in 1956. The Loverly Quartet consists of James Morris, Herb Surface, Glenn Kezer and Reid Shelton. James Morris later became the greatest Wotan of the late 20th century. |

Thanks! JJ, Thanks for the details! - Philips issued US Columbia albums in Europe for a while, so very likely the same album. Best wishes, Thomas. |

11 Sep 08 - 08:28 PM (#2437887) Subject: RE: Stanley Holloway vinyl From: Thomas Stern Hi Melissa, This is the value of 'discography' - Documenting everything that exists for a performer or label. Comparing "different" albums to discover that they may be the same as some other album. I would not have known about the Golden Wonderland album if you had not provided the information - we now see that it is the same as two other albums. In the future, someone looking for material by Stanley Holloway now knows there are 3 possible sources for this recording. Discography needs the participation and input from many collectors to get a complete picture of what was recorded. And, again THANK YOU to all who have contributed to this and my other inquiries. |
12 Sep 08 - 12:18 PM (#2438435) Subject: RE: Stanley Holloway vinyl From: Martin Graebe Not vinyl but shellac. There was a 78 rpm record of 'With her head tucked underneath her arm which we used to have at home. It spread across both sides of the record with the instrction from SH at the end of the first side "Turn her over, lads, and I'll tell you some more!' Unfortunately I took it to school with me and it arrived home again as a DIY kit for two small flower pots, so I can't give you a number. Martin Graebe |

01 Aug 10 - 05:10 AM (#2956031) Subject: RE: Stanley Holloway vinyl From: GUEST Hello, I'm not a member here, but this thread came up while I was Googling Stanley Holloway recordings. I don't know whether this message will get through or not. Anyway, the lists that have been presented are mainly of LPs and reissues, most of which contain much earlier tracks from the 78rpm era. I should think that a more useful discography would be a listing of the individual titles he recorded and I have compiled such a thing. I realise the subject line says 'vinyl' but the original poster had also asked for a detailed SH discography which must go beyond vinyl. Let me know if anyone would like to see it. Regards Chris. |
01 Aug 10 - 08:15 AM (#2956085) Subject: RE: Stanley Holloway vinyl From: Geoff the Duck Hi Chris I'm sure people would be interested in the info. The original poster is still about, and will probably look in to see why the thread has reappeared. Just a small thing. The people in charge here like guests to choose a name and use the same one as they have had problems with anonymous nuisance posters. It just makes life simpler. Quack! Geoff the Duck.` |
