Good Intent Rochester UK 27th +28th Sept

Having completely buggered up the previous posting, I thought that I would try again. There is to be held, on the 27th and 28th of September, a beer and folk weekend, at the above venue, from 12.30 onwards. Saturday will be hosted by John Barden and Sunday by ' Rough and Ready', A rare treat by anybody's standards

Tell us more - is there a formal programme of events - guests - singaround - morris etc ?

Norcsalordie are available that weekend (at a fee)

Hi Rafflesbear. These occasions are usually singarounds, but very good singarounds. The best of Kent Folkies will be there - even TDL.
Growler - these guys are great- suggest some negotiation here- they've played the Man Of Kent. Karen and Dal might like to book them for your birthday.

Wrong weekend for me I'm afraid.

I'm taking two clients and their carers up to Norfolk for a week from 27th, so I'll be looking for clubs in the Wisbech/Kings Lynne area that week.

Anybody out there know of a few, within say 10 miles.

Dijit

Now (evil smirk firmly affixed) if TDL as well as "Don" (capo di tutti capodastri) Thompson can arrange an alternative engagement we can all come out from behind the curtains, and attend...

So long as there is no margarine, if you get my drift...

Did I mention I now have 3 not 4 Volvos...

Very witty Melodeonboy!

And no Growler, apart from the bits I removed after the engine did its China syndrome, it is now definitely only three Volvos (unlsess you count the spare twin cam engine in my garage needing a rebuld, the spare M46 gearbox that alas will not tolerate the engines I have got, and the M90 gearbox and ancilliaries that I got on Saturday to put in the silver one)

By no means Kentish (not yet anyway) or anyway near best at anything, but I plan to be there part of both days (hopefully). Looking forward to hearing lots of good music both days.

Going to search for a B&B within walking distance of the Good Intent, now.

I have every intent (oops, a pun) to be there in full heckling mode.
Target for the day is probably gonna be Richard, but TDL may be on the receiving end of a few stray remarks.
If it's a success, I may give 'em the full heckle :-)

I didn't know you were in scrap metal, RomanyMan - we must discuss the price of a Volvo that can be driven in (not that Ihave any spare ones any more).

You do of course know what one is - you saw me drive one out of a field twice at boggy Knockholt.

Despite im still recoverying from bloody Trench foot after Knockholt.
Myself and Woodsie are getting there mid day Saturday and I wanna do Sunday has well so I want to find a B&B in staggering distance of the Pub? That would be very handy but I fear unlikely. If not I could go home and comeback Sunday which is a Bloody Par-larva. There again after a day in the pub I might just pack me small throw it up in the air and it errects itself tent and rough it in a field somewhere?

Sunday, on the other hand, built up a nice head of steam. The second fiddler added considerably to the sound and both were observably improvising to good effect.

Have to compliment Carrie again on the wossname polka - I have only previously heard it margarined and hated it. With all the notes in it is really nice.

Wow! We both had a great weekend. I need to get up with the Essex Girl and Naughty40 so we can swap some songs and maybe learn a couple to perform together.
Thanks for the invite, Growler. The folk at the Good Intent are always so warm and welcoming. Really looking forward to the December do. Must dig out my Ramskyte Dark December CD and see what songs I can resonably lift and not damage too much.

P.S. Thanks to Essex Girl and to Richard Bridge for their very kind offers. They know what I'm talking about. And to all over the weekend for the great music and lovely compliments. Confidence up another notch.

Oops. Almost forgot.

Huzzah to the Host and the Hostess of the Good Intent!

Well done, Karen and Dal. Not only for the stouts(!), but for their continuing hosting and support of folk music.

And finally, Happy Birthday to Dal and Growler.

naughtyforty -
You have been pm'd with Auchindoon lyrics as per your request. Someday, I would like you and maybe Essex Girl to learn Advice to the Ladies with me. Some lyrics are a bit raunchy, some very raunchy, very simple melody and easy to remember chorus, but it needs to be performed with attitude and some requisite harrassment of and flirting with the men.

Pete the Hat -
You were peeking over naughtyforty's shoulder at my book o'songs and laughing at "Advice to the Ladies" lyrics. If you can convince naughtyforty to learn it, maybe we can perform it next time we all are met together. la la la

After wide debate and consideration during intervals at Rochester who is Rafflesbear ? He/ She. I think you ought to expose yourself so we can all get to the bottom of it.

And this so doesn't belong in this thread. Shrug.

Hey the Barden... there was loads that gave me a shiver on Sunday. Not the least was Fisheye's Martin as mentioned above. The fiddle tunes from Cari??? and the other fiddler (unknown silver haired gentleman ????) Mustn't neglect to say that John, Steve and Norman each took it in turn to make some good tingles. Sorry you missed it.

Girl Friday... I stand corrected on the two Raffles respectively. We will try to get up to Fab Club this weekend. Not promising as Chris has loads of work to catch up on and I am starting new job tomorrow. Fingers crossed, eyes dotted and all that.

My holiday repertoire is so disgustingly Americanised. Thankfully my Ramskyte should help me build something more appropriate.

Which reminds me I need to beg another Ramskyte CD from John Thornton. I only have Dark December and Flickering Light.

Are there any other groups that have made holiday albums?
