Howdy, Old Timer

My grandfather used to sing a song to me that I loved. I remember much/most? of it, but would like to locate the lyrics. I have to assume it was from his childhood in the early 1900's. The lyrics I remember are:

************************************
Howdy, old timer.
It's good to see you,
Say, how be you?
I hope that everything's OK.

Honest, old timer,
I've never seen you
Looking finer.
I hope you'll always look that way.

And if you ever need a friend,
When hard luck knocks at the door,
Just make a bet I won't forget
What a friend is really for.

And between us, old timer,
We'll make your troubles
Fade like bubbles.
I'll stick, old timer, to you.
************************************

Has anyone heard this song before, or does anyone know anything about it?

Thanks,

Dan V.

Hi, Dan. I am having trouble getting the Lester Levy Collection at Johns Hopkins to load in, but I think it would be a good spot to try to find your song. I have found many there for my dad who is in his 80's.

If you go back out to the Forum/Thread page and look at the top/middle, where it says a bunch of things, such as "view your personal page", etc., you will see "Links"; click on that, scroll down to Lester Levy Collection and foolwo it to their search function. If it is on there and was published before 1924, you should be able to view and print the original sheet music.

Good luck and I will keep trying, also.

Hi katlaughing. Thanks for your response (below). I got into the Lester Levy collection, but didn't find it. I also waited a while to see if anyone else responded, but no one did, so I reposted to try once more. Thanks again.

Hello Dan,

I am calling a longshot here memorywise but I seem to recall an "Old Homestead" recording by the late and lamented Bradley Kincaid that had a song with that title on it. This is a memory thats at least 20 years ago but it sound like a Kincaid kind of song.

Good luck.

Don

I couldn't find it in Levy under "Howdy" or "Old timer." Anybody know this song?

According to the Online Discographical Project . . . .

"Howdy, Old Timer"
Black Brothers (OKeh 45270, 1928)

"Howdy, Old Timer"
Carson Robison Trio (Clarion 5325, 1931)

I don't know if either of these is the song you are looking for, but it's a place to start.
