Jacqui! all that false info about the horrible climate we have is the only thing that keeps Maine a sparsely populated state!

There was an old man named McGrew
Found an elephant's dong in his stew
Said the waiter, "Don't shout or wave it about,
Or the others will all want one too."

It was hailing very hard yesterday here on Bodmin Moor, but it must be about 6 degrees C today so quite balmy in comparison! We have bad weather forecast for this weekend though. Can't wait for the snow, the logs are all cut, the woodshed is full, woodburners at the ready, I'll just pop out and buy the chestnuts to roast... There again, I still have to get all my spring bulbs in as the weather is still too wet to get them in the ground.

SnowIng steadily in Stoke, but much to warm for it to lie.Looks great falling against the paricularly fine autumnal leaves on the copper beech outside my window.
The tomato plant looks rather sad covered with slushy melting stuff.

No snow here on t'other side of the Pennines. Cloudy and cold with quite a heavy frost this morning. Still got lots of wood to cut up to keep the home fires burning.

It's been wet here (Goderich Ontario) for more than a week, and to add insult to injury, there was hail yesterday as I was leaving for a nursing home gig and snow this morning as I was leaving to take the kid to school. None of it stayed on the ground except as water to weigh down the clumps of leaves plugging the storm drains.

The sun will likely come out today just as I start work. It figures.

Peace, Mooh.

22C and sunny yesterday in Moncton, NB, Canada. 16C and rain and windy today. We will be back to the cold in a couple of days. We usually get these "swings" 3 or 4 times before the snow sets in.

Same here, gnu. I'm grateful to have a few more swings before full snow; we still have wood to haul, bulbs to plant, and potted plants to heel in. More strong winds coming through today. Better go put the farm stand back on the ground. Brrrr

In southeast Alaska we get snow much later than they do farther north. Anchorage, for instance, has had snow on the ground for a month or six weeks.

But- on the 24th of October we got 2"-4". Very pretty and my little dog rolled in it as though she couldn't contain herself.

It is almost all gone now on the level on which I live. On the slopes of the mountains the snowline is still low, though.

Cold now for a few days in N Yorkshire, windy too. Just came over the moors from Pickering and picked up 2" of snow on the car in about 18 miles, but no snow here in Whitby yet.

At sea level we seldom get much of a fall, but we get cut off for a while most winters as the roads out all have to traverse exposed higher ground.

According to BBC the most recent snow to hit London in October (until yesterday, obviously) was back in 1934.

Nice here today, wind SW for the minute and sunny but it is just faking it; tonight it is going NE for a week, and that means properly cold by UK standards.

Peace, Mooh.

Power outages in La Belle Province! Got an e from Beer that said the snowflakes were huge like spring snow... maybe winter is nearly over?

Windy and half the temp it was yesterday here in SE New Brunswick. The reason it was so warm on Monday (22C and sunny) was that it was the first day of deer season.

A web headline fairly late yesterday reports a "major blizzard" covering the northeastern US. (Mostly New England states, I think?)

There was mention of quite a few homes with power outages. I believe a saw a "40,000 homes without" for one local area.

A couple of major Interstate highways closed due to "many accidents."

One municipal official commented "We're salting the roads and it isn't even Halloween yet." (I guess he's saying it's unusually early in the year for a storm of this size.)

Yup. We got snow last night, here in the Monadnock region. There was almost a whole inch on the ground! It's been spitting snow on and off all day, but not amounting to anything.

I do remember being about 9 years old in Greeley, Colorado in about 1968, and trick-or-treating knee-deep in snow!

The village of Ottery St Mary, famous for the Tar Barrel Rolling, was cut off on Wednesday night when hail fell to a depth of over 2 feet on top of flash flooding. The hail was so intense that, in places, it drifted and one of the emergency vehicled got stuck in a 6 foot hail drift. Cars were washed away, houses flooded. Less than a mile awy they just had the odd shower!
'The Met Office recorded that between 8pm on Tuesday and 2am on Thursday 57.6mm of rain fell in the Ottery St Mary area. The average for the whole of October is 103.4mm. In places of Ottery St Mary the hail was up to two feet deep, said Mr Grommett. Temperatures were about 2C during the storm, but dropped to freezing at its most intense.' Still as balmy as a day in Hawaii here. We have had over 160 trick-or-treaters, a record.

I can't assert that putting out pumpkins and colored lights to propitiate the Weather Demons helped bring about this beautiful weather, but it certainly hasn't hurt.

Rather nipply here in SE New Brunswick, Canada, for the past week. But, we are about to have our second "swing", of which we usually get three or four. Daytime highs will be in the mid teens for the next five days, followed by a drenching rain and then it will turn cool again. This cycle repeats until it finally turns cold.
