I thought someone would at least be able to tell me whose song it was or proper title so I could have more luck finding it elsewhere. A tourist couple goes to a Chinese restaurant and brings their little dog with them. When the waiter comes, they tell him their dog is hungry, too, and ask for some scraps to feed him. The waiter speaks very little English, and seems confused, so they attempt to convey their meaning by pointing to their dog and making eating motions. The waiter nods, smiles, and takes the dog into the kitchen.... You can guess the rest. |

The Catlin story reminds me of a recent survey I took of the shelves at our local gourmet supermarket where you see row upon row of pickled pigs feet, Rocky Mountain oysters, ox tail soup, but not a single can of puppy dog tails. In fact, I couldn't find even one of his songs that had any of the words PUPPY, BOTTOM, or POT in the title. This Jimmy Driftwood discography doesn't have it either. Neither does Allmusic.com. If you Google for "puppy in the bottom of the pot" the only thing you find is this thread. |

On the tape, he introduces the song with a bit about Driftwood and his wife living on a reservation for a while.. I've been looking for a set of words online to compare with the tape. Some of the phrases don't scan well and I think there may be a couple missing words. It's hard to find and I hesitate to put iffy words here before I can find some verification of some sort. I'd be glad to pm the ones I have to you, Jim Dixon, if you'd like? I just want to make sure they're accurate before posting them here. |
