Hi all

Following the success of the Phil Beer gig at the Maudslay, Coventry last September, we've decided to make it a regular thing and have a guest every second Thursday of the month beginning in March 2009. Hence the name of the club - 'Maudslay Thursday'.

Gig list looks like this at the mo:

April 9th - Vin Garbutt supported by Bisiker and Romanov £10 (£9)

May 14th - Les Barker supported by Alfresco £9 (£8)

June 11th - Tanglefoot (no support) £12 (£11)

July 9th - Swarb's Lazarus supported by Chris Green £12 (£11)

August closed

September - TBC

October - TBC

November 12th - Dick Gaughan (TBC) supported by Bisiker and Romanov £11 (£10)

December 11th - A Night Off with PJ and Peggy supported by Isambarde £11 (£10)

Tickets can be obtained by emailing us at maudslaythursday@yahoo.co.uk or ringing Lucy on 07983 590050. The address of the venue is the Maudslay, Allesley Old Rd, Coventry CV5 8GJ.

Hope to see you there!

Just a bit of an update!

Just confirmed for October 8th is the delightful George Papavgeris and the equally delightful Vick Swan and Jonny Dyer, thus making it a distinctly mudcatty evening!

We're also having a bit of a fundraiser night for the new venue on 18th December (2008) featuring the incomparable Keith Donnelly, Mick Bisiker & Chris Green and Alfresco. There will also be the inevitable raffle - the prize for which will be a pair of tickets to all of the 2009 events for two lucky people!

Tickets for the concert cost £6 on the door or £5 in advance and are available from Lucy on 07983 590050 or we're emailable at maudslaythursday@yahoo.co.uk

Cheers

Chris

Oops, I've just realised I put the wrong contact number up for tickets in both of my previous posts. It's actually 07535 130975. Perhaps a kindly elf could alter it for me? Thanks in advance!

this will be a convenient venue should I decide to runaway back to my parents as the live not a quarter of a mile away in Coundon. Bit far from East Yorkshire -is the Burnt Post club still going?

We, Sneak's Noise, ran the Burnt Post from 1977 to 1986. Universally regarded as one of the best clubs in the Midlands at the time.
Closed in 1986. A couple of people had a go at re-opening during the 90s, but never really took off.
Main problem was the pub itself, and one of the reasons why we closed it. Being a managed house, the managers used to change fairly frequently. We were lucky with some great gaffers, but latterly, it all started to go downhill. It was re-classified by the brewery as a 'training pub', which meant we started getting managers who were just passing through, and usually had no concept about folk clubs, and saw it as a nuisance.
This remains the case, and I believe the upstairs room has now been turned into offices/training facility.
On the other hand, there is the Maudslay pub, which has a great upstairs room, and is the venue for the new Maudslay Thursday venture started by Duellingbouzoukis.
Well worth checking out if you are returning to/visiting Coventry. I am sure details of upcoming gigs will be posted here!!

Just to let you know that the Phil Beer gig on March 12th will now be taking place on March 5th due to a clash with Show of Hands' Tour of Topsham. Full details are available at www.myspace.com/maudslaythursday

All the other gigs are still on the second Thursday of each month (hopefully!)
