Some Great Pop Things are too Great for a mere folkie. (I might just work up The Wild-Eyed Boy from Freecloud for January, though.) |

01 Dec 08 - 06:43 AM (#2504715) Subject: RE: The Beech, Chorlton - First Birthday From: Jack Blandiver I would have requested Pip sing SMBJ, but as he's not going to be there, Sue's When A Man's In Love is a particular favourite... |

01 Dec 08 - 09:39 AM (#2504879) Subject: RE: The Beech, Chorlton - First Birthday From: GUEST,Working Radish IB - sorry, no; way out of my league. To do justice to the Works of Woody you'd need to be some kind of long-haired maverick multi-instrumentalist with his own recording setup, and I'm not sure I even know anyone like that... David - great news. As I said upthread, it doesn't look like I'll be there, but I'll be sorry to miss you. I must cadge a lift to one of those singers' nights of yours some time. |

02 Dec 08 - 03:17 AM (#2505573) Subject: RE: The Beech, Chorlton - First Birthday From: Les in Chorlton Dave, it's certainly looking a bit grim here today. I think tank-tops are possible with an appropriate song, Les |

02 Dec 08 - 06:04 AM (#2505657) Subject: RE: The Beech, Chorlton - First Birthday From: Les in Chorlton Thank you Dave, Spleen and Flootwood for interestong suggestions and support. I am tempted, in the spirit of the Living Tradition, to encourage people to dress in cloths of a specific and recognisable era. This will probably stretch from demob. suits, Beatnicks and Teddy Boys .................. L in C |
02 Dec 08 - 07:23 AM (#2505706) Subject: RE: The Beech, Chorlton - First Birthday From: GUEST I'll be there at 8, maybe we'll get in a few tunes before the ruckus starts proper ; ) Can't make up my mind whether to do Farewell to Tarwathie, or Scarborough Fair - what do you think? will have to try to borrow Kens' gittar again since space will no doubt be at a premium. 03 Dec 08 - 10:12 AM (#2506865) Subject: RE: The Beech, Chorlton - First Birthday From: Dave the Gnome Looks like things have conspired agaisnt me once again:-( Still may just get there but Senora el Gnomo is really poorly and laid up in bed. I am going to have to play it by ear and see if she can manage without my ministrations for a while but I am serioulsy considering ringing the doctor at the moment. And I had just sorted out a wonderful pullover. Wonder if it can get there on it's own... Cheers DeG |
03 Dec 08 - 11:31 AM (#2506919) Subject: RE: The Beech, Chorlton - First Birthday From: Les in Chorlton dave, it will be a shame if you don't make it but I hope we will have plenty more and I trust Senora el Gnomo gets well soonest. Perhaps Dial-a-pullover, the well known division of Dial-a-Pizza could deliver the pullover and we could take turns in wearing it as we sing Cheers Les |
03 Dec 08 - 12:31 PM (#2506960) Subject: RE: The Beech, Chorlton - First Birthday From: Matthew Edwards Happy Birthday to all at the Beech tonight; much as I'd like to join in the festive choruses the weather and road conditions all seem to be conspiring against me. 04 Dec 08 - 10:59 AM (#2507681) Subject: RE: The Beech, Chorlton - First Birthday From: Gedi It was an excellent evening (as usual) and many thanks must go to Les for bringing us such joys, even though he wasn't wearing a pullover. The evening very nearly came to a premature end when there was a smell of gas. However it turned out the gas was outside so we continued for another half hour or so. Ah, so much excitement and music too! Well done Les, and long may it continue. Ged |

There was even a smattering of well-under 30's who sang superbly. All in all an excellent night of song tunes and fun. See you on 7 Jan 2009. |
