17 Dec 08 - 05:09 AM (#2517560) Subject: BS: Peter Falk has Alzheimer's disease. From: GUEST,Comrac Just read the sad news that actor Peter Falk has Alzheimer's disease. His daughter Catherine is seeking a court's approval for a conservatorship of her 81-year-old father, who she claims no longer recognizes people. A hearing has been scheduled for late January. Falk is familiar to most audiences as the star of the television series "Columbo," for which he won four Emmys. He was also nominated twice for Academy Awards for movie roles in 1959 and 1960. Peter lives in Beverly Hills with his wife and recently had hip surgery and requires constant care. I always think it's sad when someone who was part of your growing up years falls to illness, it shows both they and you are getting older. |

He was apparently quite young when he was Glenn Ford's sidekick in one of my favorite holiday films A Pocketful of Miracles (also starring Bette Davis and Hope Lange). SRS |

It might have been in an episode of tv show "The Naked City". Columbo was different in that the viewer knew who the killer was early in each episode, and then watched as Columbo put all the pieces together. |

17 Dec 08 - 09:02 PM (#2518507) Subject: RE: BS: Peter Falk has Alzheimer's disease. From: catspaw49 His movies were just great. From the stupid like "Robin and the Seven Hoods" to the humorous like Max in "The Great Race" to all those heartfelt often cranky older men/fathers/grandpas that he played in later life, Peter Falk created other characters as well drawn as Columbo ever was. The guy in "California Dolls" was just classic as was his portrayal of the bumbling but successful thief Tony Pina in "The Brink's Job. The remake of "The In-Laws" couldn't hold a candle to Peter and Alan Arkin. I never saw Peter Falk in a bad role or doing a part that was less than his best even when poorly written and in a schlocky movie. He is a great, great, actor and certainly one of the very best of his generation. Spaw |
