New open folk evening - Long Marston, UK

On 5th January 2009 (yes: 2009...) there's an open evening at The Queen's Head, Long Marston.

I'll be anchoring an evening of mixed folkiness. All singers, players, joiners-in-of-choruses, contributors of banter, and listeners welcome. It'll be kicking off at 8.15 pm. Depending on how it goes we'll make it a regular monthly session: probably second Tuesdays (comments welcome!)

The Queen's Head is just north of Tring reservoirs at 38 Tring Road, Long Marston, Hertfordshire, HP23 4QL.

And all the best for a peaceful, prosperous and muscial new year.

Good luck Hamish - I hope it's very successful and runs and runs!

Best wishes,

Good idea, but is it best to have a Monday session to see how a monthly Tuesday session might do?

All the best with the venture

Cheers
Nigel

Thanks, Will and Nigel.

Yes, you're right, Nigel, it was less than optimal planning! We just went for a suitably soon first date to get it in the diary before we thought more deeply about a regular date. Maybe we should have gone for a completely random date...

Will there be cake?

And Amazing Grace?

mvAG is on the list, Ross.

In fact I've lined up a couple of dozen folk or "folk" songs which all have decent choruses. But I'm hoping there'll be plenty of other participants to restrict me to somewhere between a couple and several.

Lovely evening: pub was pretty full of performers and appreciative listeners. We had Richard, Keith (from Canada!!), Ross, Steve, Sally, Alison and Chris as well as yours truly which was a nice number. Meant we all got to do about half a dozen songs each and it kept things moving. We'll definitely do it again in February: exact date to be confirmed. Anyone see any problems with Tuesday the 17th?

Thanks again to all participants! Thoroughly enjoyable all round!!

Okay, chaps/esses (or should that be folkies/esses?):

I've just had a text from Jon the gaffer of the Queen's Head "thank you for oganising a great evening" so I've confirmed the next one as being for Tuesday 17th February.

Onwards and upwards!!!

Hi,
Just asking...what's the set up with this session, is it round the room, all pitch in or spots? I'd like to come to the next one as unfortunately last night clashed with my beloved Globe session and it was on the Herts thread the next one is on a Weds is that right?

It's around the room. But loads of choruses and/or sensitive (and sometimes not so sensitive) joining in with whatever fiddles/guitars/mandolins/percussion as seems appropriate. Be good to see you, Mr Meister (or can I call you Flash?). Yes - next one's a Wednesday - the 18th March. We may or may not settle on a particular day of the week. Dunno, really.

Flash is fine but Miss. Meister is equally ok! :D
Ah so a booming arhythmic bodhran drowning everthing out might not go down well?....only joking...look forward to coming along the next session and seeing what aural delights the wilds of Tring have to offer!

Best of luck Hamish an 'all in the new venture.

Also, we're toying with the idea of doing something similarish on the afternoon of the late May Bank Holiday. Any views/thoughts appreciated.
