BS: Good thoughts - Micca needs mending:-)

18 Jan 09 - 01:17 PM (#2542337)
Subject: BS: Good thoughts -aka wher Micca's been now
From: katlaughing

Our Micca went wobbly, yesterday, and had to go in hospital overnight for some tests. He had the good sense to know he needed help and so, it seems, was prevented from having a stroke. They have changed his meds and will be monitoring him very closely. He is SO good about his diet, one of the meds they had him on was messing him up because he has so little sodium in his body unlike most folks who eat so much processed, sodium-ridden foods. Goodonya, Micca, for eating well for health!

In the meantime, folks, please keep him in your thoughts, prayers, etc. as they will be doing more tests to assess what they found last night and also to check out things further with his heart, that big ol' full of lovin' heart of his.

He is home and being loved up by Little Wugsie and is taking care as he has promised to do so.

Miccadarlin'...you know you have all that I have, all that I give, and all that I receive in deepest gratitude and with all good wishes for complete recovery and health.

MIcca, I forgot to say that explains why I couldn't get to sleep until about 4am, my time, this morning. Nothing I usually do worked to settle me down and I just couldn't figure out what was bothering me! I am grateful you are home and safe as can be.

Scare YOU Linda???? Guess what it has done to ME!!!!!,(it did in 20 minutes what Senna pods usually take 24 hours to do) I am being heavily monitored and they are threatening me with all kinds of "Tests" and stuff, Echo Cardiograms and stuff like that. "She who must be obeyed" (Morty) has read me the Riot Act already.... the big downside so far is the new meds they are putting me on are STRICTLY NO ALCOHOL!!!!! (bastards!!!) my thanks to you all for your good wishes, I will try and behave myself and stick to the "true path" (thats going to be a first!!!) which is not Flamenco!!!, but clean and abstemious living (another first) I will report back with any developements!!!. BTW The "Technicoloured Yawn" I did in the A and E dept.(Emergency Room) at the Hospital was "Guiness Book Of Records" standard!!

Micca, sweetie, this will teach you to eat your salt like a good boy! Seriously, I'm glad you're OK. I'm sure Acorns can come up with some nice low sugar grape juice for you.

Now, hear this, pal- no more scary "episodes", got it? You are under strict orders to do every single thing your doctors tell you, or I can assure you that Nurse Ratchett would seem like the Angel of Mercy compared to the kind of treatment you can expect from me and the rest of us who love you!!!!!

Take care of yourself? Please?

I think I wasn't as clear as I could have been. Micca tell me if I am wrong? The low sodium is actually good and what they would hope all folks with elevated blood pressure would do; it just seems the meds he was on aren't geared for folks who actually DO restrict their sodium intake. Now, as for the other, well, they've got to evaluate and maybe do more tests and make sure other things aren't going on in that brain and heart of his! Besides, grieving for a pint.**bg**

Projectile vomiting? It's a damn good thing you weren't in my upstairs bedroom. There are limits you know.
Which reminds me - I finally returned the computer to its rightful owner and what do I find but a device that appears like a light meter. Micca says it is his but how can I know??????

Nurse Ratchett will seem little Mary Sunshine if you don't behave!

Glad the medical types got to you on time, Sweetie.

Balance in all things -- yes, in general it's good to keep one's sodium intake very low (as Tom does) but you have to have SOME.

Balance! Balance! Balance!

Really glad, Micca, they caught (by accident you say) the potential for a stroke and headed it off at the pass.

Take care of yourself, friend!

Just chatted with the dear little man- he's actually feeling pretty chipper and plans to go to work tomorrow, as it's closer to the hospital than is his home! He seems to be taking care of himself, and was going to toddle off to bed after we said goodbye.

So, no Nurse Ratchett. This time. But she's watching you, Micca!

(he did seem to feel that the prospect of the collective wrath of several female Mudcatters at his bedside was daunting enough to merit continued good behavior as a preventative!)

You old scroat! Take better care of yourself and you'll live to be 100 like me.

Ever notice that when we get sick the first thing they order us to give up is drinking? I have a theory. If we quit drinking, we won't live any longer but it will seem longer.

Reality is an illusion brought on by the lack of booze.

Just back from dropping off some entertainment for him... he's cheerful enough but obviously not well. He hates hospitals at the best of times but he's in the right place.

He hasn't actually been formally admitted as of 10.00pm tonight, but it is unlikely, with the amount of tests they have scheduled, that he'll be home before tomorrow.

All good thoughts welcomed.

We decided there should be a "Sulky" corner available at clubs and festivals for those of us who are on either No or Very Limited alcohol due to medications. Anyone know any decent non-alcoholic drinks which aren't filled with tons of sweeteners and other nastys - or would like to offer ideas for 'cocktails'?

Remember you've had Wugsie too long to send her back so just get well quickly and escape to look after her.

Just spoke to him, just after he'd been tortured by the "physical terrorist" as he called it. He sounded good, upbeat, and thinking he might go home later, today. I don't know how things work there, but he did say they had more tests to do and I note the time over there is late afternoon, so maybe another night in hospital? He did say he had a room, all to himself, with his own en suite bathroom with shower and all. Quite impressed with that and puzzled that he had such. I told him it was all those Mudcat vibes we've been sending of "Take Good Care of our Micca!" He said he's had hotel rooms that weren't as nice.:-) He sounded good and I am thankfull.

The hospital has had a lot of building work done lately. New clinics, day operations wings etc. They've also set themselves up as a university ie teaching hospital and I reckon they've had a few private rooms added so that they can cater for the burgeoning private market.

OY! If I'd have known this was happening before I would have got in touch with Olive Whatnoll and had her rush to your bedside, Micca. She would want to feed you some of her latest pastrie creations, of course, and fill you in on the latest gossip about "wot's 'appenin' in 'Ull", and I expect that would do wonders to restore your flagging spirits. The malingering old git is waiting for more test and I'll let you know what's happening when I know...

The restriction on mobile phones is due to a perceived interferance with cardiac monitoring equipment... allegedly. There are areas in UK hospitals where they request mobiles be turned off. A&E (ER) is one of these because of the resusc equipment.

Really what it is, is a money-grabbing corporation who install mobile 'public' phones for the bedside in hospitals, who want to be able to continue charging extortionate rates to patients who wish to let people know where and how they are.

I tried to call Micca this morning on his cell and got an odd message. Now I understand. Cell phonesd are usually banned in hospitals here both for the electronic problem and the fact that people seem to need to bellow into them - damn annoying.

Rules in UK hospitals re mobile phone use have very recently been relaxed in most areas including at the bedside.
Certain areas have special signs where they COULD affect certain equipment.

So the expensively-installed and expensive-to-use bedside telephone systems will be losing money for the companies which installed them.

There are privacy issues too- not just noisy phone conversations on the ward, but camera phones...

BBC News: Hospital mobile bans can be eased

Wishing you well, Micca.

To the person who called his house at about 7.20pm GMT, sorry, I couldn't find his phone and then I couldn't work out how to use it so I missed you and may have screwed up your answerphone message.... my bad!

He's slowly going nuts with boredom and is STILL waiting for his MRI scan, but is hopeful at getting parole tomorrow.

He called me at some vampirish hour (UK) and sounded kind of groggy, but perked right up as soon as we started talking. I read him a few choice bits from this thread, esp. those of Spaw, Amos and others about their "candles." That got him to laughing. He says they are to do an MRI tomorrow, that it seems since he was going to be there tomorrow anyway, they'd decided it was just as well to keep him where they can monitor him, rather than go through any A&E(ER) intake, again, if he had another emergency. Makes sense to me. He also said something about his trousers/pyjama bottoms? not staying up and he was getting ribbed about flashing them or some such. The connection wasn't the best, so I am not sure I got that exactly right. Sounds like him, though, doesn't it?:-)

His tea of choice is PG tips - the stuff the monkeys drink (or produce... one or the other).

The trousers in question have press studs to secure them. I use the word 'secure' in its loosest form, which is indeed, what the trousers are. They're a delicate shade of mint ice-cream green, and that's all that's delicate about them!

He had one scan this afternoon at about 3.00pm, sending me a message at 4.30 that he was waiting for another. No word since and as it's now 6.30pm, I suspect he'll be there for another night. Just as well I bought all that cat food.

It's just as well I've known him for 23 years... there are few bits of him I've not seen unclothed so I was prepared for the flashing, but if anyone of a nervous disposition is inclined to visit, take a pair of dark glasses or a sturdy bag or bucket - those papier mache bowls they give you are useless.

He called me as I was filling up my car with gas (petrol). I told him that's what I was doing. He mentioned something about calling from the loo as it had better cellphone reception, then made some rude comment about us both being gaseous.:-)

Horror of Horrors, they played pop music for twenty minutes while he was in the MRI! As he hates it, it seems fortuitous that he survived such torture. Thankfully, as LtS said, manitas was by and brought him some classical music to listen to. He is VERY bored.

All the experts had gone before there was time to do the echo, today, so it seems he has to be in the weekend to wait for them to return and also, I think, so they may keep a close eye on him. (He actually thinks that, too, from what he said.)

Liz, thanks for keeping us up to date and also for being there for him and Wugsie. I know how much he is missing her and how much she must be missing him. I hated being away from my cats, in hospital. It is a great comfort to know someone we can trust takes care of them.

1/2 cup mineral water mixed with juice of 10 raw chillis, ginger and coriander tonic, grapefruit exctract and crushed pepper - swallow half, snort the rest through nose and take a vigorous walk.

It's best (and cheaper) not to park in the hospital grounds but in one of the streets nearby. Don't use the Glenn St entrance near Prince Regent's Lane, you'll have to walk the length of the hospital. Park in Lonsdale Ave, New City or Boundary Road and enjoy a short walk over the Northern Outfall Sewer or as it's more fetchingly called - the Greenway.

Well, I've just had a long chat with the old scrote tonight, and he's in fine form. He's been passed through the bowels of an MRI scanner and not broken it, he's had nurses taking blood samples at unholy hours of the day and night and, worst of all, he's been forced to eat hospital food.
But, despite all that, he's the same loveable loon we know and love. The only probem is, the poor bugger's bored out of his box, and no wonder. I fear that the Newham hospital may yet rue the day they admitted him!
He's awaiting the results of a battery of tests (I don't think there's an organ they haven't yet probed, jabbed or bled), but in a perfect world he'll be out ere long. And, what's more, there's a rather large incentive for him to get off the pills and back to normal, in the form of some really rather exceptional Rioja.

Although the P45 came today, I still have the gloves and I know how to (legally) use them! Hell, what else would I do with about 4 doz pairs of latex gloves?!

C'mon, you old bugger, behave yourself, grimace and take the medicine, and then get yourself out of there asap!

Andrea x

Acting on information received, I understand the purple ones are not latex - they are the ones for people allergic to latex. As it's a fairly serious condition if you're in and out of rubber gloves all day, the hypoallergenic ones are more common now, to prevent accidental contamination.

I prefer them too, such a lovely shade.

Just in from 3 days of concerts for college students and Irish American Societies, and find this?????? You are not shitting me any, Patterson. You went on Facebook, found that Lane, Fielding, Patterson and Swan, Layabouts at Large and for hire was accepting (for the first time in its history) associate members, so you decide to rack up some hours. Shameful, lad, simply shameful. There are others that have trying for years .... so this is but a weak attempt to jumpstart your app. But the no cider thing is problematic, as drinking the clients booze is a big part of all this. Tell me, lad, are you able to let loose air biscuits? Can't be a layabout if you can't let the occasional "poot" into the room atmosphere. We are a new age group of layabouts and believe and practice the ancient art of aromatherapy.

Listen, I have to handle this delicately, but if you decide that it is time to "getaway", could you make sure someone knows that I would like my Folk Legacy hat back??? Thanks. (you sneaky wee man...... I still laugh when I think of the look on your face when you pulled that one...)

BTW ....... I've seen the "candle" during your infamous walk to the shower in the co-ed dorm at Getaway. Spaw...... unless you have a problem that defies medical description, you might want to stay out of this one......   LOL.

Get better, my good friend. I have the candles lit and you are square in the middle of my reflections and prayers.

Much Love,

Mick

Well, he's just being a social butterfly via his cell phone in the loo. I also spoke with him this morning (his afternoon) and he did, indeed, sound quite chipper.

Spaw, I hate to tell you, but he asked me to pass this along to you:

He wouldn't touch your *candle* with a ten-foot pole!

First , and most sincerely, my thanks to you all who have contributed postings, and healing energy that have helped me greatly during what was, and could have been a very scary time What happened?, I hear you ask,
Well, on Saturday 17th January I had coffee at Liz the Squeaks and set off home to get ready to go to Barcombe for the big sing on my way I suddenly developed very severe motion sickness and tunnel vision, I lay on the sofa to see if it would pass and it didn't so after 30 mins I called 999 and asked for an ambulance which arrived while I was still on the phone to the Emergency services. They did all the Emergency tests and heart attack stuff and still were not happy so took me off to the A&E at the local University Hospital, A very smooth ride in the ambulance, without a vulgar siren or fuss. at the Hospital they wheeled me into the A&E dept, where the floors where a bit uneven and that made the motion sickness worse so I threw up all over the cubical and the opposing wall, (a cast of about 8 feet) luckily there was no one in the line of fire . They did a CAT scan and kept me in overnight. The following morning 9Sunday) the doctor saw me and told me they feared I was very close to a stroke so the altered the meds I was already on and prescribed some new stuff and let me go home with strict instructions to return rapidly if ANYTHING happened.
PT2
I went to work as normal Monday and Tuesday (my job is closer to the Hospital than my home, only about 100 yards from A&E) and everything was fine until I got home at 1 pm Tuesday, when suddenly a large patch of opacity appeared in my lower left field of vision and was there no matter which eye I closed, or even both. I called the NHS direct help line and they suggested very strongly I went to A&E right away!! So I did and was admitted as a patient, the kept me for 10 days as a (I think ass-covering)precaution and to get the necessary tests done, Echo Cardiogram, MRI, sonogram of the blood vessels in my neck etc, so I have confirmation that
1 I have a heart and it works
2 I have a Brain!!!
They have done a complete MOT on me apart from kicking the tyres and commenting unfavourably on the state of the Bodywork ( I told them I tried the Body Shop last year for a replacement but they had nothing in my size). so they let me out again on Friday evening. I have to see the consultant on Monday morning and find out what I can (and maybe cannot) do and what meds I need and for how long etc
So again A big Thank you to you all, especially Kat and Chance for starting the threads and to everyone who contributed energy and thought,
in Gratitude
Micca
