BS: David Oakley (Cara) Not for Sale

Even though there is economic gloom, foul weather and no certaintity for the future, what better way to pass the time that an afternoon pondering local artistic talent in Ferens Art Gallery Hull- The Open Exhibition. I'm wending my way around Gallery 7, marvelling at the artistry, the perspective, the sublety of light and shadow when KAPOOWWWWW!!!! tucked in the corner, captures in watercolour (or was it gouache?) is our very own David Oakley playing violin ;a picture of concentration upon his instantly recognisable face. The painting was superb, incredibley detailed, very well composed and beautifully painted, and it captured the essence of his music. Alas, it was not for sale, nor would I suspect that I had sufficient funds available to me to purchase it. Are there any other mudcatters captured for all time on canvas?-Ossanflags certainly is.

This is a wonderful exhibition and most pieces are purchasable and available for collection after the exhibition ends on 25/4/09. If you are in Hull put it on your itinerary and be sure to spot the Oaklet !

My goodness! Thank you for posting this, Linda. I intend to go there without delay and see that exhibition. Happily, I do have sufficient funds to purchase that painting, no matter what the price, and I shall do so without hesitation if it is for sale. I have long admired Oakley's music. It would be wonderful to have such a painting hanging in the dining room, just where my husband Winston can see it when he's taking tea. He hates Oakley with a passion! I can't help but smile just thinking about it...oh my! What a treat! It's simply got to be for sale. If it isn't, I'll just buy the entire gallery. There's always a way...

The artist featured Oaks' portrait on her site while the work was in progress. It was interesting to see the progression. Alas, I clicked one day and "page not found".

Bloody 'ell! I've seen this 'ere Oaklet chap sawin' away on 'is fiddle, I 'ave. 'E makes a dreadful sound on it! I wouldn't say 'e's a celebrity exackly...no, 'e's nowt loik that. But 'e does add a bit o' local colour to 'Ull, 'e does. Me and Eddie 'ave moved back to 'Ull recently, so I finks we'll go and see this 'ere exhibit as long as there ain't no bleedin' cover charge. Eddie 'as lit'tle interest in art wif the exception of them paintings of dogs playin' darts and poker...'e loiks those bigtime! You can get 'em at the corner stores. Now THAT's art! As for me, I fancy seein' all the art I can in order to get a bit o' culture and baffle me inlaws wif me knowledge of "the good life". Thank you very much, Linda Kelly.

No charge at all for entry to Ferens Art Gallery or the exibition. Regrettably no pictures of Whelks on display -this is Ferens not the Tate Modern.

On the subject of mudcatters captured on canvas, I was pleased to be captured myself by our very own Linda Kelly, who is an excellent artist herself. And I'm playing a melodeon. Maggie appears on guitar.

Why are you people in the UK always "getting your coat"? Don't you ever go anywhere in just shirtsleeves (and trousers, etc, of course)? What about in the hot weather?

Shirtsleeves (and bare legs on females) are only worn in this country in large cities after midnight by young people en route to night clubs.

The rest of us have a coat or cardi to hand at all times- you can never be too sure.

Though Oaklet -and MR- have bared their legs for their MySpace photos, you can be sure there was a cardi under their chairs. Oaklet even had a scarf over his thigh to forstall unexpected draughts, wise man.

Mike and David posting at the same time. Now that is something special.

Now David, didn't you tell me that the dangly thing on your fiddle, was a giant pubic hair from the enormous whelks that can be seen basking on the shoreline of the Humber.

If I remember right, you fought with it, a little like David and Goliath, but you managed to chop the pubic hair off and it died.

Saint Oakley me thinks :-)

By the way, the pub in Faldingworth is complaning becuase you haven't been in there for some time. They say the barrel of Guinness that they have for you, is going off.

Thats why Saint Oakley was so brave.

Basically, the gardenres Fair runs over the weekend of 30/31 May.

The muisc will be in the car park of the Festival Hall, where there will be stalls etc. The Fair will be all around Market rasen, and ther will begardens open for people to view.

They will have a big trailer where the acts will perform, during the day.

Each performer will do about an hours music spread over the day.

There will be a PA system

Got to take the kids to school so will post this and complete the info when I get back.

Saturday looks like it will be these acts, sharing the bill (not the police). From 10:00 to 4:00

Cara, Wild Wolds Women, Abi Moore and Rupert Henry & The Revolvers.

I haven't completed the Sunday one yet, so will post that when I know.
