John Layton - Toronto singer

Many years ago, the early sixties, I played in a duo at a Hootenanny in the basement of Binkley United Church in West Hamilton, Ontario. One of the other performers was John Layton, at the time a student at the Ontario College Of Art in Toronto. He played with another Art student whose first name was Brian. I remembered John, not only because he was good, but because he and I both had Goya M-26 guitars from the late fifties.
I recently saw an album at a party called Femmes Fatales by a singer/songwriter from Toronto named John Layton and wonder if this was the same guy. The John from the Hoot had a father who was a professional wrestler nomed Lord Athol Layton. Does anyone know if this is the same John Layton and how I could get in touch with him. Does he have a website or a myspce page?

When I first moved to Toronto and Lived in the Beeches, I met John Layton, who's father was Athol Layton, his brother Chris, and lovely mother. I knew them all socially for about 5 years till I was transferred.

John was married to Donna, they had a daughter, Mitsy. John got very heavily involved into Scientology, and music so (they do attract the entertainers)....I think he is the same person.

I have heard nothing of him over the decades...but he was about 6'3" and had a body of death.

I remember him as a young life guard at the Toronto Beaches...with Tourists jostling to get a shot of John in his Spedos.

Would kill for one shot of that!

A bit of a thread drift - but "Lord Layton" was a big part of my childhood, as host of "Big Time Wrestling", out of Windsor - or perhaps Detroit. He presented himself as a very suave Brit, frequently taking restrained umbrage at the villainous antics of The Sheik and others of that ilk. You always felt secure that the mayhem wouldn't get TOO out of hand with Lord Layton in charge.

I can't say that I've ever heard of John Layton, but there is a Toronto singer-songwriter named Max Layton who is the son of legendary Canadian poet Irving Layton.

Guest Jim.
I think you should hop on board the Toronto Folk History thread.

There is also an amateur singer-guitarist from Toronto named Jack Layton who used to be my city councillor. Now he's an MP and leader of the NDP. His father was a Conservative cabinet minister under Brian Mulroney.

How do we combine this with the Toronto Folk History thread? Seems like it should be in there...

Guest Jim should just get on the Toronto thread and ask the same questions that he is asking here. Jim, why not just copy and paste in the Toronto thread what you are saying here? That should work.
