25 Feb 09 - 05:26 PM (#2575896) Subject: RE: Good Intent Kent UK Concert Nights From: growler As you say, there are No Worries. Tam a ' Bardette ' is similar to a ' Barden ', only thinner, but only just !!! |
26 Feb 09 - 04:10 AM (#2576206) Subject: RE: Good Intent Kent UK Concert Nights From: The Barden of England They insisted that they were 'The Bardettes' so who am I to argue. They are the extremely talented Brian & Marion Rodgers, who add another dimension to what I do (well to me they do). Brian plays 6 and 12 string guitars like an angel, also mandolin, mandola, whistles and the talented b*gger also sings to die for, and Marion plays bodhran and sings the harmonies, once again wih the voice of an angel. She also plays guitar, but I've not yet seen her play in front of an audience. We've done quite a few gigs together in the past and decided we like it so much that we're going to do a lot more in the future - if the gigs come in of course. I believe it's going to be a great night on the 10th. March and am looking forward to it immensely. John Barden |

I hate doing that and with a beer inside I would stay and end up sleeping out all night. and be found in a block of ice next morning. |
08 Mar 09 - 05:12 PM (#2584107) Subject: RE: Good Intent Kent UK Concert Nights From: growler Pierre, I'm sure we could sort out something warmer |
08 Mar 09 - 05:33 PM (#2584128) Subject: RE: Good Intent Kent UK Concert Nights From: Pierre Le Chapeau I do not mind paying for B&B and its just struck me that there is a place just across from the station I clean forgot about that. Does anyone know the name of it so I can give a ring? |
08 Mar 09 - 06:13 PM (#2584164) Subject: RE: Good Intent Kent UK Concert Nights From: Richard Bridge I think the one across from Rochester station is pretty manky. The Gordon Hotel is not a lot better but might be tolerable. Barden has a secret hideaway somewhere behind Rochester Cathedral that he may let you in on, and I think TV knows of one too. Or if Fiddlebird has a spare bit of floor she might oblige. THere is one opposite Strood Station, I think I't called t Great Eastern. There is also one a bit further down Rochester High Street that BOba dn Kath Drage used to use - but I forget its name. |
08 Mar 09 - 06:19 PM (#2584166) Subject: RE: Good Intent Kent UK Concert Nights From: Richard Bridge The Medway Manor Hotel is well located, but I know not how dear. |
08 Mar 09 - 06:42 PM (#2584181) Subject: RE: Good Intent Kent UK Concert Nights From: melodeonboy I suspect that the one across from Rochester station that you mention is Andy's Cafe. I know someone who stayed there for some time and, to the best of my knowledge, it's not that bad. You also get a nice greasy spoon breakfast there, and I think it's fairly cheap. And it is, of course, bloody handy for the station, and not much more than five minutes' walk from The Good Intent. |

09 Mar 09 - 05:30 PM (#2585033) Subject: RE: Good Intent Kent UK Concert Nights From: Pierre Le Chapeau I enjoy these gatherings. Looking forward to it. Good People good music. The only secret hide away I know of behind Rochester Cathedral is the Medieval Leper Pit. The B&B might be a bit rough, indeed the lass who answered me inquiry sounded like a pirate over the phone. if thats the case i settle for a donkeys breakfast for the night and a slide off the plate English breakfast in the morning. "Manor Hotel I,ll look sharp in there Mincing about after a Barden gig with only me leather hat on. Only jesting see you there. |

Neither of the Bardettes come close :-) Hope to see you there Wrotham-arms-jen. That's a fair old trip up from Broadstairs so a big thank you if you do make it. John Barden |

10 Mar 09 - 07:14 AM (#2585440) Subject: RE: Good Intent Kent UK Concert Nights From: Pierre Le Chapeau I have confirmed me booking at the B&B and the Lass I spoke to yesterday who sounded like a Pirate is in fact a Cockney from the East end. I have a nice little room with adjoining bathroom AND shower, She Said 'Now do you want Breakkies in the morning Luv,I said Indeed I do the Whole works piled up high. 10 Mar 09 - 08:51 AM (#2585503) Subject: RE: Good Intent Kent UK Concert Nights From: Richard Bridge Apart from the showers of blood from the stab wounds in the denizens - oh, no, sorry, that was what used to be the pub (next to the carpark now) two doors down that is now a chinese restaurant. Ah, reminds me of "'Arry's" (formerly the Blue Boar, now a shop called "Sergeant's Mess" opposite the cathedral) where I used to run a reggae disco for the west indian seamen and tarts and half the skin'ead population of the Medway towns (the ones who were not fans of my two rivals, Graham Sage and Joe South (no, not that Joe South). The flashpoint was a bit low in there too! |
11 Mar 09 - 02:55 PM (#2586550) Subject: RE: Good Intent Kent UK Concert Nights From: melodeonboy Thanks to both performers and audience for last night (not forgetting Dal and Karen for hosting it). 11 Mar 09 - 03:48 PM (#2586590) Subject: RE: Good Intent Kent UK Concert Nights From: Don(Wyziwyg)T What a feast that was! Starting with Dean, who put on a nicely composed set of material which admirably showcased his obvious vocal and musical talent. Great start to the evening, and just right as a lead in to what followed. Now Brian and Marion Rodgers (No Worries) are a class act, and the Barden, well with that voice and a head bursting with great songs itching to get out, need I say more? Last night something happened which, for me, was magical. I was blown away by the best merger since somebody said "I wonder what those strawberries would taste like if I poured this cream over them". They perfectly complemented each other, and it was amazing how right everything sounded. A golden night! Thanks Guys and Gal. There's a new must see group on the block. Don T. |

13 Mar 09 - 11:33 AM (#2588026) Subject: RE: Good Intent Kent UK Concert Nights From: Dead Horse Pierre Le Chapeau,Do you folk know what a Bardette is ? Barbette: the inside fixed trunk of a gun mounting in a warship on which the turret revolved. It contained the shell and cordite hoists from the shell-room and magazine. It was originally the name given to a raised platform on the deck of a warship protected by armour on the sides, on which heavy guns were mounted, and which fired over the armour. 13 Mar 09 - 12:16 PM (#2588074) Subject: RE: Good Intent Kent UK Concert Nights From: Dead Horse Bardette: Diminutive female bard. Usually seen wearing diminutive leather skirt whilst beating long dead goatskin - presumably in order to prepare said goat skin for manufacture of an even smaller leather skirt, or possibly a thong for her mate. Marionette: Doll that entertains. Brian: Thinger of thaid thongs, also master of all things with strings attached, such as Bandolins, Mandollars and Violharpers. Bandolin: Cross between a banjo and a fiddle. Makes an awful noise and is untunable - hence its popularity with Hillbilly musicians. Also due in part to its pan shaped sound box, which when held under the chin, catches drool and terbaccy spit. (Not to be confused with Bandoleer, which is a guitar strap adapted to hold extra ammunition for the band.) Mandollar: Cheap mandolin, so called because it usually costs no more than 95 cents. Violharper: Fiddle with attachment for holding harmonica. Popularised by Robert Zimmerman during his "eclectic" phase at the famous Woodstock, Isle of White and Knockholt Festivals. John Barden: Love child of "Sleepy John Estes" Need I say more? :-) |
