His CD - In from the cold is a masterpiece IMO. I just wanted to take the time to thank Pete for so many years of great music. Anyone want to share some Pete stories with us here is a good chance to put him on the spot. I was just listening to "The gentleman soldier" wonderful work my friend God Bless you Pete |

There's something limiting about communicating on a computer screen with these little black squiggly characters we type out. Just as in music, it only occasionally happens when the warmth of a person comes through the screen or out through the apeakers. Miraculously, the person is there despite the inherent limitations of the medium. I've come to know Pete through the kitchen table thread, and I mean KNOW him. I admire his generosity of spirit and his modesty. Perhaps someday I'll get to hear him in person. Kudos to you Pete, and to you Dan for doing these threads. Jerry |

My one abiding memory from those days was him singing Battle of New Orleans unaccompanied, no big deal now, but a revelation to me then - you don't HAVE to play the guitar with a song, just 'cos you can. Up to then I only heard ballads sung unaccompanied. Thanks for that, Pete. (and the songs been in my repertoire ever since in a variety of arrangements.) |

Do you remember the clock in the museum, I think it was at 4 oclock each day the 12 disciples process past Jesus, all of them bow to him except Judas who turns the other way!It was one of my favourite days out, the other was Crystal Palce park and the statues(huge) of the dinaseurs. ( Nothing like jumping in at the deep end. ) The next day we went to Southend for the day, went on the pier where you did a recording in a booth, can't remember if it was you and Rip together. I was one of those who was involved in producing it, but I had forgotten I still had a few copies left. What was fascinating was not only the number of clubs there were in SE London in those days, but also the theme of the articles. Is folk music dying? Where have all the audiences gone? I smiled quietly to myself at that point and thought, "Nothing much changes, does it?" Does anyone else remember "The Penny dreadful?" Best wishes, Peter |

14 May 09 - 02:28 AM (#2631360) Subject: RE: Waddon Pete (Twitchett) Music From: Joe Offer I just listened to Pete's In from the cold CD. It's good stuff, lots of fun, unpretentious, but a quality performance. It's the kind of music that I'd perform if I were English. There's a lightheartedness to Pete's performances that I really enjoy. Thanks a lot, Pete - I really enjoyed your CD! -Joe Offer- Here are the notes from the CD: This CD is a small snapshot of some of the songs that I enjoy singing. I have also included a couple of monologues. I have remained faithful to the musical influences that shaped my life. First and foremost was Mum, bless her, whose family enjoyed singing. She had uncles who trod the Music Halls and her father played the piano for the silent movies! Dad’s great uncle went over to America to make his fortune and brought back the American songs, an interest that remains alive. Mix that all together with a fine leaven of traditional English music and you have an idea of where I am musically! |
19 May 09 - 07:15 AM (#2635556) Subject: RE: Waddon Pete (Twitchett) Music From: Waddon Pete I've just returned to find the lovely post from Joe. Thanks for your thoughts, Joe! Yes, Travelling Singer, it will be good to meet up again at Pig's Ear. I'm not sure though, do we need non-return inlet valves or exploding biscuit tin ovens to gain entry? If you notice a few cobwebs when you see me, it's because I've just discovered that I've been archived! Scary! Best wishes, Peter |
20 May 09 - 05:58 PM (#2636978) Subject: RE: Waddon Pete (Twitchett) Music From: Travelling Singer I would go fornon-return inlet valves every time. Hoe and where have you been archived and is it very uncomfortable? |
23 May 09 - 05:10 PM (#2639526) Subject: RE: Waddon Pete (Twitchett) Music From: Waddon Pete Hello TS, No...it's not uncomfortable...just a bit dusty! ('choo) Essex Record Office have the privilege of a recording of a gig I did in Chelmsford a wee while ago now. (....and no the recording wasn't on a wax cylinder....)....(the very idea)...(LOL) It was a good evening as I recall.....interestingly I met up with a member of that audience a few weeks ago. We were already acquaintances but they hadn't made the connection with Chelmsford until I sang a particular song. At the end of the song he said, "I know who you are now!" Wonderful. Best wishes, Peter |

25 May 09 - 06:24 AM (#2640318) Subject: RE: Waddon Pete (Twitchett) Music From: Waddon Pete Hello, Robin was a loyal supporter of the club for many years. Sadly, I lost touch as time went by, so I, too, would be interested to know what he's up to now. Perhaps Maureen will know? TS, I'm in a comprehensive collection of folk memorabilia relating to Essex! Fascinating! Best wishes, Peter |

The weather was glorious and the venue was ideal. The week-end was very well organised and it was good to see so many young families there. Folkwaller....no traffics jambs to speak of so was able to make a bolt for home..... .....the club organiser siddled up to me. "You played for the door," said he. "We've had a good night lad and so, here you are! Plus two hinges the bolt and the key!" |

08 Jun 09 - 05:59 PM (#2651669) Subject: RE: Waddon Pete (Twitchett) Music From: Travelling Singer I hear that Thetford went very well with a thunderstorm to help thinga along. |
11 Jun 09 - 09:07 AM (#2653908) Subject: RE: Waddon Pete (Twitchett) Music From: Waddon Pete Hello Travelling Singer, Well remembered! The Thetford gig was connected to their Thomas Paine 200 festival, and I hear that Lewes is holding a festival as well. It was a shame for those people who had organised outside events, but we were indoors sharing some of the music we play on Wayland Community Radio's folk programme. I always enjoy singing to a non-folkie audience. Thetford seemed to like us....... Best wishes, Peter |
13 Jun 09 - 04:08 PM (#2655754) Subject: RE: Waddon Pete (Twitchett) Music From: Waddon Pete While I was at Thetford, I had one of those experiences that makes what we do so worthwhile. There were great musicians to share the experience with and the 'stage' was very reminiscent of the rails of a ship and so a sea song or two seemed appropriate. After I had finishd my part of the concert a member if the audience came up to me and thanked me for singing a particular song. She used to sing it with her father when they were out sailing and she hadn't heard it for far too many years. My singing the song had made her day, and she had made mine. The magic of folk music! Best wishes, Peter PS If you have come across from the kitchen table thread, help yourself to cucumber sandwiches, strawberries and cream! PPS If you haven't come across from the Kitchen Table Thread, you are still welcome to help yourself. There are enough for everyone! |

It was a Brewery Birthday Bash. Very good it was too. Now........if you are in travelling distance of the Milkmaid Folk Club in Bury St. Edmunds, I would be very pleased to see you on the 17th July. I am supporting Peter and Barbara Snape with my usual eclectic selection of heritage songs. :o) If you are a mudcatter, please make yourself known! Best wishes, Peter |

The floor singers were many and varied. Talented bunch too. Singing Robin, Les Elvin, John White, Brixton Bert Crys and Mike Rothon to name just a few. Good times! It's worth noting that the club is still going, and Crys and Mike are still heavily involved! |
