Music Websites & Donations - Moral & Ethical?

Hi!
I would really appreciate your input to the following:

If you decide to use some useful music material made available at a public website, and a voluntary donation is requested, say, via Paypal (safe & secure), to keep the website available for all,.... do you?? Morally... do you feel obliged or Ethically... how do you react? Be honest... have you ever really bothered to give, even just a little? Or are you offended by the request?

Thanks,
Harley

Hi, Harley-

There are a number of music Websites that I use regularly, and I feel like I have come to know the people who run them. If they asked me for a donation, I'd seriously consider it. Most of the Websites I really like, haven't asked for donations. Mudcat is an exception, and I've given a lot of money to Mudcat because it's something I really believe in. Of course, I'm the Oldest Living Moderator here, so it's a bit different.
But if I didn't know the people running the Website, I'd be reluctant to donate.

P.S. What's the "Mo" mean at the end of the thread title? I can change it if it needs clarification.

Hi Joe,
I meant to add the words "Moral & Ethical" but the title failed to include that, or more than likely... I did.
Maybe adding something like "Yes or No??? would've been better.

Harley
How about Music Websites & Donations - Moral & Ethical?. Since donations are generally assumed to be voluntary (although this is not always the case), I dropped it.

Its a difficult call.

I do not have an income, but I try to do things that help the folk scene, such as running a concert venue and of late trying to provide UK and USA diaries for Mudcat. It doesn't have to be money, it can be voluntary work such as what I do.

It really rests with your own conscience.

If I use something from a website that has made it available when I could not find it generally, and the site asks for a donation, I always make a donation.
