Interesting but view with a critical eye.

A glaring mistake is the Child volumes. Wrong Child volumes.

Much of it is just lifted out of the Digital Tradition, without any acknowledgement whatsoever. Like this page which is a straight lift, mistakes and all of this in the DT here on Mudcat.

I should know, because I bloody wrote that page. But only for Mudcat, not for Rod thieving Smith

And the graphic design is horrible!

Nonetheless, the Website makes available the complete texts of many out-of-print folk music classics.
I'd rather tolerate the poor graphic design and the OCR errors, and have the texts of these great books available to me.

Yeah - the links to old texts are useful. Much of the more recent material is pretty indiscriminate and may mislead or confuse the novice, IMHO.

look a wee bit closer at the data base, and you'll find this:

"This collection was derived from the Digital Tradition database at Mudcat Cafe and my thanks goes to them, and all those whose work contributed to making this collection possible. The Mudcat collection consists basically of two parts - songs with lyrics and music which are in our songs with midis and tablature pages and this second part which consists of lyrics only."

Nothing is being hidden here, I don't think.

This appears at the foot of each and every page in the DT. If I were reproducing whole chunks of somebody else's website, common decency would dictate that I acknowledged the source of my borrowing on each page, not a single solitary acknowledgement tucked away in some backwater of the website. Neither the home page nor the "Main Menu" page nor the "About This Website" mention either Mudcat or the DT, so perhaps you could tell me where this prominent acknowledgement is not being hidden.

I note that Mr Smith states on his site Website owners are granted a free licence to use midi files and graphics files from this site on their personal websites providing an acknowledgement of source is given (one for each item used) and a link to my home page is include on each page where one or more items is used.

"Do as you would be done by" springs to mind. How about it, Mr Smith?
