It'll be great. Scraping the green slime off the caravan in preparation - might even find time to rehearse a new song or two for the singarounds. If it's as good as last year it will be fantastic.

Look forward to seeing you all.

Can anyone please, help with camping info?

I know there was something close to the village last year. Are the same arrangements available for this year??

Hazel,

Here's the response I had from Jeanette Grainger who is organising this side of things:

Hi Paul,
There should still be space on the Museum's hardstanding (car park) with no facilities on site - just the use of museum loos/wash basins. Just let me know if that's what you want and I'll reserve it for you.
Otherwise, we have reserved all of the spaces at the pub caravan park next door so you can book one of them at 7.50 per night. They have electric hook - up and water/waste disposal and use of pub's toilets during opening hours.
If you would like one you need to contact the pub direct (01751 417343) telling Phil (the landlord) that you want one of the reserved spaces and which nights you need it. Please cc to me so I know what's still available. If anyone else is interested please tell them that I need all pub bookings to come to me first so I know when to stop telling people they're available.
I believe the Caravan Park at the end of the village is fully booked and the one next door told me they were going to be adults only this year - but you could still call them in case he has changed his mind.
Anyway, please let me know when you have things decided/sorted.
Cheers,
Jeanette

jeanette-grainger@tiscali.co.uk

Hope you get sorted.

Paul

We've booked into the pub caravan site. If, by any chance, you can't get in, there is an excellent caravan park a few miles down the road in Rosedale where we stay from time to time. We stayed there last year but, obviously, it's much better if you can get in close to the venue (especially as, in our case, there's a possibility that a modicum of alcohol may be consumed). :)

Yorkie,

Yes, lots! Plenty of indoor spaces and outdoor hidey holes in the museum. We also have a big awning on our van....... I expect sessions and informal muscic making of all types will take place in all these locations and more!

We played Deal Folk Club in Kent on Friday. Quite a contingent coming up for Ryedale from there as well!

Sorry to hear that Deidre...you'll miss the first outing of the new "Brother Crow" multimedia show...

...We're doing a stint in the Manor House on Saturday afternoon, where we'll be talking about the people, places and history behind the songs, with pictures/video (yes, we've even got photographs of Tom Barton, Will Stones etc. etc.)...oh, and we'll be playing the songs we talk about as well!!!

The programme should be available around the end of this week, and having seen the draft, I have to say it will be a good 'un...

Graeme,
Brother Crow.

Can anyone give me info about the KFC Song competition on Sunday Afternoon, please?

Also is there any transport to from Hutton-le-Hole to Farndale for the Friday Night do?

11 May 09 - 06:43 AM (#2628861)
Subject: RE: Ryedale folk weekend
From: Banjiman

Nutty.

Re The KFA songwriting competition, best thing to do is email Richard Grainger and let him know you want to enter. PM me if you need his email address, I think you'll find it on the website link above though.

There were 3 heats last year won by (Ryedale) Andy Davidson of Brother Crow, (Scarborough Seafest) Wendy Arrowsmith and the 3rd heat ended up at the KFFC Big Birthday Bash (though this is a completely seperate organisation) and was won by Rebekah Findlay. Becks won the overall KFA song of the year 2008. Both Wendy & Becks also play in "Blind Summat!" and have a duo "One Stone" as well as doing their solo thing.

I am not aware of any transport on Friday night, we are swithering with just staying in Hutton-Le-Hole rather than travelling to Farndale. Parking is tight in Farndale (especially for a van) and we'll have the kids with us, so we would probably need to leave early anyway. If you fancy a wee session under our awning in H-L-H?

See you there

Paul

That is one hell of a programme!

Nutty, last year I just entered the songwriting competition when I got there - I'm going to do the same this year. If you want a lift from the campsite to Farndale on Friday, we'll be happy to oblige.

Deidre - sorry you're not going to be there; we were looking forward to seeing you again.

Graeme - multimedia show sounds like fun. I expect you'll be going on a worldwide lecture tour next!

Subject: RE: Ryedale folk weekend
From: The Greyt Hound

Hiya, yes we're looking forward to the whole weekend, but particularly the multimedia show...it'll be the shortened version as we've only an hour and a quarter...

...yes, we've put together a slide show - lots of photographs of the people, places and background to the songs and the like, even some video as well, so it'll be a bit of a history lesson with music...!!!

We hope to take it out on the road later in the year...

...watch out for us over the rest of the weekend we've a fair number of slots, and we will be playing quite a few new songs from our upcoming third CD (due in the autumn all being well) to be called Dreams of Flight!

Graeme,
Brother Crow.

P.S. In case you hadn't heard, Andy is getting married on 6th June (yes, really)...we'll be on site all weekend (except Friday), so will be around for beer, late night sessions and...errr....more beer!

It was brilliant. Listened to some superb music, spent hours chewing the fat with some excellent people and just had the best weekend ever in a fantastic location (even had a couple of pints!). Congrats to Wendy on winning the song contest and to Hazel for coming third and a big thank you to Richard and Jeanette for putting it all together. And thanks once again for the barbecue Paul and Wendy and some great sets from Blind Summat (oh, and for letting me have a go on the banjo - it's really not as bad as some people make out).

Graeme, see you at Andy's wedding.

Thanks Pete,

I enjoyed drinking your beer! We'll camp next to you anytime.

Wendy is still in shock, she only wrote the song on Saturday morning....... I think "Hearth Song" will now sneak onto her new album though she was supposed to be at the mixing stage. Nutty's song was lovely .... and it was inspiration from her on Friday night that caused Wendy's song to be written. Standard of the whole competition was very high from where I was sitting. Dave Goulder gave feedback splendidly I thought.

I thought Jackie Oates' set was stunning on Saturday night.... and far to many other people to mention. I like Lucy Ward's attitude, belting out unaccompanied trad songs in a Sex Pistols T shirt.... good stuff.

The only thing out of kilter at the weekend was Andy Brother Crow's constant smile.... quite unnerving from the man in black!

Thanks for the lovely comments and for the excellent company.

I think that festivals should be rated not just by the quality of the performers but by the quality of the attendees and in my book this put Rydale up there with the best.

As it was only it's second year and it is still emerging, it has all the makings of a superb small festival.

Thanks to the organisers. I shall definitely be returning.

Paul: if you find Andy's smile un-nerving....just think how I feel....

Captain Birdseye: It was good to meet you at last...enjoyed the sets I managed to catch.

Nutty: I'm sure we met, but I've no idea who your "real" persona is...sorry!!! If you were in the song competition, then I'll have been on the sound desk for you, so that narrows it down to only one or two people...

Joe G: See on Friday for our slot at Raggalds...can't wait...!

Excellent weekend folks...and as was said, it was the company that made it great (well, and the beer)!

Totally agree with you, Hazel. We probably spent as much time chatting to people as we did going to concerts and it was just fantastic to meet up with old friends and to make new ones. It is, without doubt, the most 'social' festival we've been to and this creates an atmosphere that is totally unique in our experience. Particular thanks to Dave Goulder for his helful hints at the songwriters workshop (and in the pub) - started putting them into practice the moment I got home.

Hope to see even more 'catters there next year (and at Osmotherley).

I must thank Captain Birdseye for his unsolicited remarks. It was good to finally meet him, two alumni of Farningham Folk Club. It was also good to meet Dave Goulder for the first time, and finally discover what to do with the Jews Harp I bought as a student. Jackie Oates and Lucy Ward were also very entertaining. All together a very good festival, I really enjoyed it, but anything with Dave Burland has a head start anyway.
