BS: I'd rather talk about....

Ever get totally sick of some contentious and irreconcilable subject being beaten to death on one or more threads? ;-D I bet you have! I know I have. That's when you say to yourself, "I'd rather talk about ------."

What would you rather talk about? Music? Dachshunds? Birdwatching? Your garden?

Well, this thread is for you then. ;-D So...what would you rather talk about???

Well, darlin', I talk about gardening on the garden thread. Birdwatching on the birdwatching thread. Dachshunds not at all, and I confess I have much more to learn than to say about music, so mostly I sit on me hands and read that what gets posted above the line.

Lets talk about, uhmmm....uhhhhh......lessee........hand sanitizers;^?

Well there's always........ CHOCOLATE!

but for those who prefer to chat about fast Formula 3 racing cars or even garden veggies ...

THIS is the topic for you ....

'"Components made from plants form the mainstay of the car's make up, including a race specification steering wheel derived from carrots and other root vegetables, a flax fibre and soybean oil foam racing seat, a woven flax fibre bib, plant oil based lubricants and a biodiesel engine configured to run on fuel derived from waste chocolate and vegetable oil.'

John Carter of Mars movie

The working title is a Princess of Mars. The director is Andrew Stanton who directed A Bugs Like and Finding Nemao. So I suspect it will be animated.

Awright! Lotta good stuff here. ;-)

The John Carter of Mars books were one of the signal joys of my youth. Too bad there weren't a few more of them written.

Bill, the meaning of life is: Whatever each person decides it is!

That is to say...it varies a great deal, depending on who you are and what you think is important. It can even vary a great deal for one single person from one day to the next in some cases...while for others it may remain pretty consistent.

Then you have those types who are so devoted to sheer mental activity for its own sake rather than for any real purpose that they decide that they are among the few smart enough to conclude what others around them are too naive or dense to...that life is meaningless! ;-) That's a notion that only an isolated mentality that's in a narcissistic love with its own imagined brilliance could ever come up with...and it leads absolutely nowhere useful, but GOSH! it sounds like quite a revelation, doesn't it? Whole schools of modern existentialist philosopyy have been built upon the empty and defeatist foundation of that outlook. Such notions, I think, arise when a civilization is in a period of decline.

A philosophy, Bill, that proposes the notion that life is meaningless isn't worth the toilet paper it was smeared on....

As for what I've been spending my time on, I've got some great books I could recommend to you. I spend money on them instead of on cigarettes and booze and ipods and other popular stuff like that. ;-)

I believe Vernor's is called a "ginger soda" instead of a "ginger ale". It doesn't have the bite that a strong ginger ale does. It reminds me of a cross between a ginger ale and a cream soda. If you want a ginger ale that'll clear your sinuses, come down here to Floribama and try a Buffalo Rock.

Well then, let's dissect the deep meaning found in the words of that classic piece of shit "Space Oddity" by David Blowme.

Ground control to major tom
Ground control to major tom
Take your ex-lax pills and put your diaper on

Ground control to major tom
Commencing countdown, you have no goo
Check your grunt and may gods love be with you

Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five,
Four, three, two, one, whooo-hooo

This is ground control to major tom
You really are fucked up
And the papers want to know whose u-trou you wear
Now its time to leave the bathroom if you dare

This is major tom to ground control
Im stepping through the door
I'm not crapping and all that I can say
Is "The turds aren't coming out well today."

For here I am
Sitting on the can
Its my place in the world
Bowl Water it is blue
And theres nothing I can do

Though I've past one hundred thousand shits
Now Im feeling very still
And I think my shit ain't gonna' flow
Tell my wife I love her very much she knows

Ground control to major tom
Your asshole's plugged
theres something wrong
Can you hear me, major tom?
Can you hear me, major tom?
Can you hear me, major tom?
Can you....

Here am I
Trying to shit into a can
There is no sign of poo
If I can't shit my life is through
And theres nothing I can do.

Hermione's son Jim was Lieutenant James Cock in the British Army. He changed his name to Cox when he moved to the United States, just in case he should happen to meet Spaw.
You would have liked him, Spaw. He was a singer and a halfway-decent guitarist, and he was a well-known clogger. He wrote poetry about the Gold Rush and the Sierras, and recited his poetry while clogging - an old Appalachian tradition.

Subject: RE: BS: I'd rather talk about....
From: Little Hawk

I've been in Trinidad and Cuba where house cats AND dogs run loose everywhere, and I liked it. It made life a lot more interesting. Now, in Trinidad, for example, there are a lot of smallish hounds that you see everywhere...the Trinidadians call them "pot hounds"...and they are the typical street dog. There are thousands of them running loose, and they are not dangerous...they have worked out their own sort of doggy society and relate mostly to each other rather than to the people. There are also larger and more dangerous dogs kept as guard dogs on various walled properties...but they do NOT roam around on the loose, they stay behind their owners' walls. There are a smattering of cats as well, and they must stay quite alert to avoid getting caught and eaten by the pot hounds.

It's noisy at night, but you get used to that soon enough...you have no choice! ;-) After the first three nights of exhaustion I could sleep through any amount of barking and howling.

I find the easygoing attitude of those southern places far better than the tightass mentality of North Americans, who have to have a frikkin' rule for EVERYTHING. We try to make life perfect here with a million laws, but we don't succeed...we just increase everyone's general stress level and people get weirder (and more spoiled and bored) as time goes by.
