This is second time around for both due to loss of mates to death. They both have grown children (so can't use such tunes as "True Love" or "Love is Lovlier the Second Time Around":) Have any ideas? And I agree, there are probably lots of beautiful songs that would be just right for this occasion, but I've already exhausted my supply and am not coming up with just a whole lot. Nice song, too. On a completely different note: if your friends have any interest in classical music, one of the most beautiful songs by Richard Strauss is "Morgen" (Morning). It is in German, but it is lovely. It is a song about people who have been through a lot in life, and who will embrace on a morning shore. There is an exquisite recording by Gerald Moore and Janet Baker. I once heard it sung by a soprano at a wedding for two 60 year olds, in England. Beautiful, slow, moving piece. I also had even thought about the song, "The Last Time I Felt Like This"..........I was falling in love (Johnny Mathis and Jane Oliver sang this for the movie, "Same Time Next Year." Also wondered about the song "In My LIfe" by Lennon and McCartney........interesting lyrics for the circumstances, don't you think? Almost pays tribute to their deceased spouses while professing love for each other. Whaddya think? |

It only goes to show that no one listens to lyrics. From: Rick Fielding Peter T, the most bizarre wedding song was performed at the reception for Richard Leslie Fielding and Heather (no middle name) Docherty in Cambuslang Scotland in 1989. The bride's sister had pestered the confused groom to be for months with questions like: What are ye gang tay wear? (he didn't know..but didn't own a suit) What kind of music are ye gang tay have? (anything but the kind of crap he'd often been asked to play at others' weddings) Well, upon being informed by future sister-in-law that jeans and a tee shirt were verbotten, he bought a cheap, ill-fitting suit, and she was so relieved she completely forgot about the music issue. Came the reception (where the groom suddenly realized he'd have to DANCE!!(at least for a bit) and it was decided that the two "best Men", Tony Quarrington and Bill Harrison (imported from Toronto) would provide the music...until the groom was finished with official protocol, and would join them to make a trio! Well, the only waltz that these two could play together was "The Brand New Tennessee Waltz"...which the bride and groom took the floor to. I doubt if any of the assembled Docherty relatives knew (or could understand) what the lyrics were. But I did! It was OK though, the older relatives were still getting over the shock of the bride dressing in a black mini-skirt! Despite all this, 'twas a wonderful day, and I'd do it again in a second! rick |

The groom's daughter will play harp music prior to the wedding The soloist will sing, "Someone Like You" The bride's two children and spouses will walk in with the minister the bride's two grandchildren will walk down the aisle as a junior bridesmaid and ringbearer, respectively The couple will walk down the aisle together The nuptials will take place The soloist will sing "One Hand, One Heart" as a benediction The newlyweds will leave the church (and if I can find the "statement" I heard at one wedding, there will be no music for the recessional, but the minister will intone, "Wither thou goest, I shall go....whither thou lodgest, I shall lodge....thy people shall be my people (etc., etc.)" (from the Book of Ruth) The first dance for the reception will be "Keeper of the Stars" (we think) and the second dance will be the bride with her son and the groom with his daughter and they will dance to, "Always" (the chorus only, of course) Next dance will be for guests to join in and we haven't gotten that far for a song selection, but that should be a piece of cake after all of this!!!
