          Beverley Heritage weekend
               22/23/24 May 2009

Hya all, here is the latest update on the Beverley Shanty festival.

Unfortunately because of the lack of funding NO money is available to pay anyone this year; there will be no exceptions.

We are keen to carry on were we left of last year and hope to have a great weekend but we do need your support. To this end we have decided to hold The Beverley Heritage weekend which will be a free festival other than Camping: which will be ten pounds per night...

Contact is: john.s.taylor@eastriding.gov.uk

Please note: if you are camping please contact John Taylor well before the event;

The barge Syntan and community area will be the centre of the festival, with the Hodgesons being made available for a survivors session on the Sunday night; also there will be a chance to see and look round some old river craft.I am working on a venue in Beverley for a meet and greet on the Friday night.

We have had many fine people who have come forward to give their services for free in the cause of keeping music live, these include:

Hissyfit
Dave and Julie Everdson
Monkeys Fist
Ray Padgett
Tegwin
Roaring Fourties
Trim Rig and a Doxy
Steve Gardham
Mick McGarry
Geoff and Flick Lawes
Two Old Bouys
Ravin Maes dance troupe
Les and Maggie
Dave Kidman
Ken Hall
Dave Howden
Ken Stokes
Dereck Waudby
and more are committing by the hour!!!!!!

If you can support us would you get back to me as soon as possible please, so we have some ideas of numbers.

if I have not included you please dont shout at me!!!! , a gentle reminder will do and I will include you in the billing.

Sadly - because the news that Beverley Beck is happening - has been so late in coming - I have made arrangements to go elsewhere.

Twas very good!

Some cracking shanties and songs from Zeke Deighton and his mate, who I knew only by reputation, Monkey's fist and Hissys (Linda and Hazel) go from strength to strength with brill harmonies and new sea songs

Dave Howden Ken Hall and Kevin Hall and spouses

Trim Rig and a Doxy are a great duo
Arthur Marsden and our Jim Saville

Steve Gardham, Mick McGarry and anybody I have missed like Harry Wilson who is a stalwart at all the Northern festivals

Ken Stocks and Marie and Tyke [George Clarke] who isn't too well at the moment

Dozy Rozy seen only disappearing with Harry Wilson!

O the usual fringe musicians, a lot from Sheffield like Bill and West Yorks Dave O'Day using the popular pubs

The dances and that lassie from Beverley college selling educational courses and all the lovely stalls and dances

O Les and Maggie (Fromull)

and not to forget the really lovely boat the Syntan, the star of the weekend

Ray

Nice one Mick!

you weren't bad yourself ,Ray!!!
Even if you forgot the half of Roaring Forties (Farting twenties??)
I had a good time on Saturday. The evening singaround was good stuff .in spite of the problems with venue/noise....and there were a lot of new (to me) songs...it was good to hear Dave Evardson's latest.....and to encounter the song writing talent of Geoff Lawes....plus of course all those mentioned above...especially Hissyfit who didn't fail again to get me blubbering!!

Sorry to be so late commenting on a Wonderful weekend . It was great to be outdoors on the beck and the impromptu massed sing on crane wharf was fun. I know Zeke and Jenny, John and Ade enjoyed it more than last year (spread between pubs). Sorry to miss the Goole outing but great to see Bill Sables and co in the Mariners last Monday. Another good Beverley Get together; Well done Mick. H.x
