How do I change my name on Mudcat?

There's another KC on Mudcat now, and I've been wanting to change my name anyhow. How do I go about doing this, and how do I get my "personal page" material shifted to my new moniker?

Tx/kc

Well, KC, usually you would go to the Help Page and choose "edit profile" from the menu at the top of the page, but "Help" ain't workin' just now. Try a little later. If you have problems, leave me a message on the help forum.

KC, just remember that when you change your name, you get to change your cyberpersonality as well. Many have come to dote upon the old KC, whose name has been connected to many an audible sigh here on the Mudcat porch, but old porchers will nevertheless look with fond expectation to the new nomenclatured figure as she begins to emerge yet again from her digitial chrysalis into the full realm of Cafeness. Hey, Bill D - what did you change your name to? Good point about changing your profile on the forum menu page. If I hadn't been in such a hurry to beat my 3-minute record, I might have given a better answer....
Yeah, WyoWoman, I think Peter has a point about name-changing changing your online personality. This is not a change to be made lightly. I have some first-hand experience of this. My ex has changed her name several times since we got divorced. What can I say?
Good riddance, perhaps?
No, that's not nice...

one of the characters in Robert Heinlein's novel, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, was named Wyoming Knott, and after years of the obvious puns, started calling herself Wyoh. So, WyoWoman, welcome agin to Mudcat; I am mostly a lurker myself but when I think I know something I rush in where angels fear to post. Never thirst, (quoting from another Heinlein novel) PETE

You're partly right, Kat. You can't register with a name if somebody else is using it; but if you're not registered, you can post messages and fill any old name you want in the "from" box. Apparently, that's what's the story with the second KC, who, most assuredly, is also probably a very nice person.

Oh, Joe...I like that one much better. Too bad I've already gone through all the name-change procedures already. But maybe I can use my WW initials as sort of a Rorshach (sp?) for taking the emotional and interpretational temperature of Mudcat respondents on any given day.

And, I want it known that I'm not annoyed with the "other" KC. S/he had the good taste to have a fine name. It was just an unfortunate coincidence that had us both with the same sign-in.

WW

BTW -- Kat: Thanks for the good words on my column. Mum left Friday morning and had a lovely visit, except for the nasty hot weather.

I just found this thread. But I've no idea WHY you would even want to change your name to Mudcat. Mudcat is already the name of a very strange place on the internet that puts itself out to be a musical site of some kind but it's really a "SIGHT". What kind of a sight is anybody's guess. I just went to a skin doctor; it was a sight for psoriasis--0if ya know what I mean. Anyhow, I guess you could go through the proper authorities of your state. Then, when you get to that area, you could request the proper form and, after that, it'd probably take a little while and your actual name would be switched to Mudcat instead of the original nomenclature that your parents gave you. They'll probably be offended as hell, so best get readey for the other shoe to drop. (I wouldn't want to be in your shoes when that happens.)

From: PJ

I'm so glad this came up. (Said the actress to the bishop...)

I've been posting all along as PJ, a conveniently typable nickname my dad hung on me long ago. I recently went to apply for official citizenship in Mudland, by registering the name by which I have become known to other Mudders. Sadly my petition for naturalization was denied because there was another PJ out there somewhere.

Dejected and unwilling to relinquish my onscreen identity, I slunk (is that a word?) back across the border.

I continue to post as an illegal alien in your village, dreaming of the day when I can register and become a productive member of society.

Meanwhile, my questions are these...

1) Are you still out there PJ, although you do not post? If so, come back to the fold, dear, and free me from this false hope of one day finding the name available to me.

2) Is there a statute of limitations on the life of a 'Catters registered name? Joe?

3) If it's time for me to move on and become someone other than PJ, who shall I be? 'Catters, help! My identity is circling the drain and I need somebody to throw me a line. (Other than a bad pickup line....)

I am, sincerely yours,

The Woman Without a Country (or Western) The Bodhran Identity Pee Jay just me ?

Well, PJ, it does look like the other person hasn't been around for a long time, but I still don't like the idea of dropping his/her registration. Did you try to register as pj, P.J., or P J ???? Would that be a reasonable compromise?

Joe, I'd love a "Name the PJ contest", dangerous though it may be. Fadac and others already seem to be playing along. Dave says I should offer a prize, but I don't know what that should be;->

I'm off to an Irish Session at Cato's Ale House tonight, I'll check the 'Cat to see if I have a new name when I come home...
