You're lucky you live in a good cell reception area.

We're in the middle of the woods. We finally found cell phones that sort of work here -- mostly outside.

Have cable TV (we haven't watched television since 1983) only because otherwise internet would cost waaaay more.

Thank you, Gary. I have not thought of myself as a young peep in a long time. LOL

This peep hasn't had a land line in several years. Money-wise it just makes sense.

This peep refuses to get a cell phone. And I remain quite happy that way.

I refused, too until I realized it was the best voice-mail, phone book, and caller ID I could get, as well as a call-out and travel-phone option I now use often. I just don't turn on the ringer unless I am expecting an important call-back.

Hardi taught me this trick since his is for pastoral emergencies but he would not want it to ring and interrupt a pastoring moment.)

Sins, I dunno why you are teasing us about the number-- soliciting PMs?!?! It's 634-5789, right? :~)

I have been lambasted before for saying this, but, if you use a cell, get one with speakerphone (hands-free) and wired headset. Keep telecons with the cell to your ear to a minimum and keep them short. Okay, here's why....

I haven't used one much since the first slice and dice to remove a tumour under my right ear. My cousin does not use one after his emergency surgery to remove an orange sized cancerous tumour under his ear which was pressing on his brain and after the subsequent chemo. The chemo recommended by the "advising doc" cited in the next paragraph was not covered by New Brunswick Medicare or Blue Cross until TWO docs here in Moncton wrote that the chemo required was the only one that would work. It had to be obtained in Switzerland and cost a big pile of money. Blue cross stepped up and paid for it. My cousin is okay.

My cousin's mother phoned the husband of another cousin who is a top notch neurosurgeon at some big university hospital in New England somewhere. His name is Gruber (dunno if that is spelled correctly). He, and a top notch neurosurgeon in California, whose name I can't recall, are buddies. They both say that the studies on cell phones and tumours are inconclusive and they don't give a rat's ass about the studies because they have seen enough of it to know that cell phones are dangerous if you use them a lot.

There, I said it. I'll repeat. Long conversations should be by speaker phone or on a wired head set.

Before anyone lambastes me again, I really don't care what the studies say or what you think. I use my cell for emergencies only... like for, say, if I developed a tremour in my hands or feet and had to get to a hospital quickly to see if such was caused by a tumour.

Thanks for that, gnu. We went to cell phone only, same home number, in January, but I hardly ever use it without a wired ear bud. Hurts my arm too much to keep it bent and I hear better using the earbud. gnu, I noticed you said wired, do you mean bluetooths are not good, then? Thanks!

We, too, only have cable because of the combined cost of internet being lower than without, well, and Rog needs to be able to check his station out on cable when they have a problem.

Anything that uses any kinda "waves" ain't good for "life". Fact is, even electromagnetic fields caused by electrical potential ain't good either... but I ain't givin up my electricity. I just wouldn't set up my tent under a power transmission line.

Took a long time before people realized that sun tanning wasn't the very bestest either. So, if you trust the studies that say that the multi-billion dollar cell phone industry has your bestest as their number one concern, fill yer boots.

I am rarely on the phone for any reason, personally.

I would like to add to Gnu's comment about "speaker phone" just to air a pet peeve of mine. If you do use speaker phone please only do it when you are alone. Drives me batshit to have to listen to that in public!

What bugs me more is someone talking into a cell phone in a loud voice next to me. I wanna tell them, "Ya know, you are talking into the ear of the person on the other end of that. If they are deaf fine. If not, NEITHER AM I!"

Mary, you certainly created a stir. Good job you didn't do anything truly controversial.

But my landline's having incoming connection problems and I'm little concerned; if it wasn't bundled with my fiberoptic wireless I'd shut it down.

I have two big problems with this chane - first, I never remember to charge the cell phone. Second, I rarely know where my cell phone is - I have to call it to find it. My last cell phone fell under the car seat and was missing for over a year. Found it when I sold the van.

Becca, I'm with you on the public conversations. Makes me want to heckle! I don't know which is worse, all these people walking round with earache talking to themselves, or the ones that wander lonely as a cloud, reading or sending text messages. I want to slap their hand upwards from underneath as I go by, and see how far the phone travels!
Someone I know said that when cell phones started to get small enough to fit in the palm of the hand; he thought how nice it was to see so much traditional singing going on in the street( a la Ewan MacColl-not-finger-in-the-ear.).

You could set it in your cleavage. That way, it would be nice and toasty when you put it up to your ear. Might look a bit odd if you were charging it at work, though.

And, if you had hands free... hmmmm... that might appear odd as well. "Who's she talking to?" "Oh, just some...

You really should have a cell r1. In case Jeri decides to leave you there for a while.

Yesterday, new garage door opener installed for the new door installed on Wed. Buddy's young fellah installed the opener by himself. He whipped out his cell and started... $886 + $312 + $30 X 1.13HST = $1241.00 (you do the tic). I asked, are you sure? Beep, beep, beep... yup.

I said, "I can write the check for that amount but your old man is gonna kick your ass when you get home." I wrote the cheque for the proper amount and told him to tell his old man (a friend) to loosen up the purse strings and spend $5 on a good calculator.

I wonder if he figured out what he did wrong yet?

If someone is carrying on a loudand unnecessary conversation on the bus with someone, I just chime right in..yes, I do think you should dye your hair purple; you're right, the Yankees really are not up to par this year etc. Of course, if they are just making a quick call to check on the kids or arrange to be met, I think that is OK. mg
