07 Jul 09 - 08:12 AM (#2673768) Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday, Alanabit! From: alanabit Goodness me! Thank-you all very much. I am currently recovering from last Monday's meniscus operation. It is going great: no pain, no crutches (since Friday) and I can stretch the leg fully. I am hoping to be back in training by autumn. Summer holidays give me time to practise a little guitar and mandoline. Does anyone know about foxes? I couldn't sleep this morning, so I was up before sun up to visit "my" fox in the nature reserve. He duly appeared and was trotting through his normal foraging area. He then made it clear that I was not welcome. I was watching him from about 100m through binoculars and then several times he turned and let out a sound which was something between the croak of a crow and the angry hiss of a cat. I am not well up on fox lingo, but I guess his remark would have translated as something similar to "Piss off alanabit". Still, I guess you can't please everyone. Hope all my friends out there on Mudcat have a great day too. |

07 Jul 09 - 08:17 AM (#2673775) Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday, Alanabit! From: Rapparee I've had that operation. No big thing; you'll be up and around long before you're ready. You'll need to walk with a stick for awhile; use it to threaten people. DO go to physical therapy! The fox thought you were muscling in on his territory. You're right about the translation. |

07 Jul 09 - 09:10 AM (#2673826) Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday, Alanabit! From: alanabit Thanks Adrien. The third one and the third from last, of a red fox calling out were the sounds closest to what I heard. I never realised before that a fox could make so many different sounds. |
07 Jul 09 - 11:35 PM (#2674383) Subject: RE: BS: Happy birthday, Alanabit! From: Beer Just want to say Alan that the site I sent to you also opened my eyes and ears. For the past 6 years there has been a fox across the river from me that comes down and walks the river's edge. It is fascinating to see especially when the geese arrive in the spring. When they are sunning and they see him coming they all on "Q" hit the river and follow him/her as he moves along. I've seen maybe 200 geese all quacking or is it honking as they follow him/her. Great birthday thread eh? adrien |
