I just read that an old friend of mine, Billy Hults (aka "Washboard Billy," "Billy Foodstamps, "The Rev. Billy"), a well-known Northwest musician, superb washboard player, an associate of the Holy Model Rounders, co-founder of Tolovana (Oregon) Arts Colony, political gadfly, editor/owner of the Upper Left Edge newspaper, co-author of Citizen Clark: Expose Yourself to Politics, the biography of Portland's Mayor Bud Clark, a wild and irreverent rascal, and a most generous, funny and humane individual, passed on at the ripe young age of 65. He'll be missed.

I am sorry to learn of his passing. While I did not live in Haystack Rock, I did spend much time there in his book store, heard him play (the band was The Four Skins), wrote some articles for him, and liked to talk politics with him. The man knew everybody who was anybody and most everybody else in Oregon. His sense of business, however, did cause his friends to occasionally drop in, go over his financial books with him, and organize his book shelves.
The world is a little less interesting.
