22 Jul 09 - 10:56 AM (#2685277) Subject: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: 3refs A retired US Lt Col Peters has more than hinted that this young man did not just "walk away". I find his comments a little more than disturbing. His interview is on Fox. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/3073144/fox_news_ralph_peters_suggests_taliban_should_kill_us_soldier/ |

22 Jul 09 - 12:46 PM (#2685357) Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: meself Boy, he sounds real mad! Now, let me get this straight - this young man made a cool, rational decision to "desert" in the middle of Afghanistan, and to offer his services to the Taliban ... hmmm ... |

22 Jul 09 - 02:11 PM (#2685409) Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Stringsinger The current Administration has built up an enemy posing. The Taliban is the new boogeyman. Actually, they are not as prevalent in Afghanistan as they are in Pakistan, supported by the former Mushariff. Reagan originally made deals with them. The US supported them against the Russians in their attempt to subdue Afghanistan. Does this pattern sound familiar? The Afghan Occupation is a wasteful exercise in futility. It will become Obama's "war" as Vietnam was L.B.J's. There is no constructive outcome to the US incursion in Afghanistan or Pakistan. There is no cohesive workable plan to help the citizens of either of those countries being offered by the Administration. I don't know anyone in their right mind who would participate in this conflict militarily. |

22 Jul 09 - 02:39 PM (#2685424) Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Bill D Whether or not that soldier has any problems...(and we don't KNOW that)... that Lt.Col. should have his lips super-glued together. What a stupid way to respond to a bad situation. |
22 Jul 09 - 03:59 PM (#2685460) Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Mrrzy I wondered, myself... it would be a symptom of sanity. |
23 Jul 09 - 08:30 AM (#2685904) Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: 3refs I like to think I haven't in the past, but I would never suggest that anyone was a traitor, deserter or collaborator if I didn't know for sure! Once you put a thought like that in the peoples minds, it never really goes away! |
23 Jul 09 - 10:32 AM (#2686000) Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: frogprince An odd situation, in that I have a rare degree of sympathy for a Fox news person. It appeared that she was blindsided by his comments, and really tried to distance herself and do some damage control. |
23 Jul 09 - 11:03 AM (#2686020) Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: meself She was in an unenviable, "no-win" situation - she clearly did want "to distance herself and do some damage control", but if that became obvious to their guest "military analyst", it might well provoke him to say something even worse. I would like to have been a fly on the wall during the next commercial break. |
23 Jul 09 - 12:46 PM (#2686079) Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: olddude and Fox New actually paid that asshole? yahhhh ... ok ... and he rose to the rank of LT. Col we are in deep crap if guys like him are leading our young men and women I have no idea if the soldier deserted or not but it sure sounds like Rambo there already made up his mind. If he did desert then the law will handle it but those comments ... from someone who once held that rank ... good gosh where is me shovel, gonna dig me a shelter |
23 Jul 09 - 02:03 PM (#2686142) Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: meself Of course, his retirement may have come after some very strong "encouragement". In fact, following his example in regard to the circumstances of the Taliban's taking of the soldier, we should feel free to speculate as to the circumstances of Lt Col. Peters' retirement - or was that "firing"?. Who's first? |

23 Jul 09 - 08:58 PM (#2686468) Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: kendall I read somewhere or saw on TV that more soldiers have deserted than have been killed in Iraq. They come home on leave and refuse to go back. Remember that old question, What if they had a war and no body came? |
23 Jul 09 - 10:57 PM (#2686512) Subject: RE: BS: Suggestion that US soldier deserter From: Sandy Mc Lean I find it scary that the US army would promote such an idiotic arsehole as Lt Col Peters to any position of authority. How many more of his ilk are out there, I wonder? Thank God he is no longer in uniform! As for Fox News, it seems that in Lt Col Peters they have exeeded right wing criteria of facist drivel! It's hard to soar like an eagle when you fly in a flock of turkeys! |
