We (Blind Summat!)are playing at The Falls Cafe on Sunday afternoon. Outside if nice, inside if not!

Won't get there until Sunday this year unfortunately as some of the band have a gig on Saturday night elsewhere (One Stone at Swaledale (Richmond) Folk Club).

Be good to catch up with some of you. Soldier Boy, why not pop down and say hello seeing as we missed you at Cropton (which didn't happen).

Cheers

Paul

Thanks Paul. Do you (or anybody else) know if you can still put up a tent in the field below The Old Hill Inn or is it just camping at the Docklands camp site near Ingleton.

I'd like to give Muppett some support in the Comic Song Competition at The Old Hill Inn on Sunday afternoon if I get chance to go.

Wot's this about Muppett, thought he got married at Whitby? or did it not happen. Is he at the silly song contest this year, it wasn't the same last year without him.

Subject: RE: Ingleton FF 2009, Who's going?
From: GUEST,dozy rozy

Muppet has started a new tradition. He will, henceforth, get married at every festival he attends, so no-one is left out.Victims, sorry, potential wives, have no fear. He promptly shirks his responsiblities, disregards a sacred oath, and buggers off into the pale blue yonder.Untill next time!

Can you imagine anyone marrying Muppett and tying him down to domestic bliss and restricted social circulation? No, of course not!
It's a great shame, but it didn't work out.

Muppett had a short dabble as a pagan husband at Whitby but has now thrown off the shackles and is a free man once more. Thank god for that I say. He is a wonderful free spirit who will be difficult to tie down and that's the reason why we love him to bits. I hope he does find the right woman one day but she might be as rare as rocking horse droppings!

Anyway, he will star again at the comic song contest at The Old Hill Inn, up the hill from Ingleton, on Sunday 4th October (about 1.00pm I believe) so make sure you are there and give this folk hero your full support.

Well I just been looking at the Comic Song Competition and seeing that it sponsored by Masons Dog Oil it reminded me of a comic song that I once heard about "Dog Fat".
Is there any chance I might hear another rendering of this song if I go along to listen to the Comic Song Competition.

Or can anyone slip me the words via a PM?

FYI Muppetts "free spirit" was never quashed by the commitment, instead of presuming what happened maybe you would like to ask, but then again it is no ones business other than our own.
Thanks, I could not be made to feel more uncomfortable going to events that I and my son thoroughly enjoy.

I think that some Mudcatters should be apologising and asking the Mudcat's Joe offer to remove the offending comments. All they have done is to demonstrate that you no little of Muppets or Becky's feelings. I do not know Becky but I do know Muppet and that he set himself very high standards when it comes to relationships.

Chin up Becky I think you will find that you have a lot of proper friends on the Mudcat the majority do think of others and not just themselves.

Enjoyed playing tunes & singing with friends old & new.

Great muso sesh Sunday afternoon, shame we had to leave so early.

I thoroughly enjoyed all the comic songs but, although I could have told you the titles or themes of the winning songs, I'm afraid the names of the singers escaped me. Luckily the website has been updated with photos and competition winners names

But sadly no reference to the excellent response to your Song Challenge Chris!!! You should have been there. There is now a Masons Dog Oil Song. I'll let you guess who wrote it. I'm sure it will get sung again next year

Re: Tyke's question about Dog Fat. The song was written by Jack Lee from Rochdale who ran a number of clubs there, and is still running one - see http://www.folkimages.com/hobo/menu.html

Dog Fat                                by Jack Lee (originally – see below)

1 One day a knock came on the door and when I answered it
An old man he were standing there, he were having a coughing fit
I asked him what's he selling and he quickly doffed his hat
He coughed and sneezed and cleared his throat and then he said "Dog fat".

Chorus:

Come and get your dog fat, dog fat oh he cried
That's the only ointment that can penetrate your hide
Rub it smartly on your chest or rub it on your back
If you've got a pain you'll ne'er complain if you rub it with dog fat.
Dum a diddley di do, dum a diddley day.

2 Dog fat is fair for falling hair, it cures the griping pain
If you use it neat it's good for your feet, makes cripples walk again
It'll surely take spots off your face and burst boils on your back
It'll cure with ease rheumatic knees, oh rub 'em with dog fat.

3 My dad has always wanted curly hair on his bald head
But medical science can't do a thing, that's what the doctor said
But yesterday he rubbed a lump of dog fat in the strands
When he got up this morning he'd got hair all over his hands.

4 There used to be a girl who thought her figure was not complete
Oh yes, she had a pretty face, and her legs were rather neat
But her chest was flat, so she used dog fat as bust developing cream
When she woke up another little bust had grown in between.

5 Constipation were troubling Ada Plum, it drove her in a tiz
She'd heave and strain and squeeze her head, but still she couldn't biz
Then she took a dog fat suppository and quickly lost her frown
She had to get off toilet twice to stamp the bugger down.

6 Well it's good for your lungs and it's champion for your heart
And it cleans out your stomach, every last little part
And if you want a contraceptive girls, dog fat's the thing for you
Just stick a lump between your knees, it sticks like bloody glue.

Dog Fat - The Guilty Men

Verses 1,2, chorus        Jack Lee

Verses 3,4                Slightly adapted by Paul Reade (couldn't remember Jack's original verses which are):-

3 My dad has always wanted curly hair on his bald head
But medical science can't do a thing, that's what the doctor said
But yesterday he rubbed a lump of dog fat in the roots
When he got up this morning he'd got hair down to his boots.

4 There used to be a girl who thought her figure was not complete
Oh yes, she had a pretty face, and her legs were rather neat
But her bust was small, and though she tried all the ointments from the quack
Now her bust is forty-four, with rubbing 'em with dog fat.

Verses 5,6                Tony Downes (sings in Hanky Park http://www.hankypark.co.uk/
).

From: GUEST,galloway folk

further derivatives of the Dog Fat Song verses as sung by Galloway Folk

I believe Mr Jack Lee might vary his renditions as he performed the song. Most of the verses below 9slightly adapted)were based on a cassette tape I managed to get my hands on some years ago.

This version is now linked from the masons dog oil website

This couple they had tried for kids for years and years and years
She fed him well on marrowbone, on oysters and pig`s ears
Then she mde a dog fat poultice and he wore it night and day
Now he`s raised a football team but he plays both home and away.

6 Well it's good for your lungs and it's good for your heart
It makes some fellas burp and it makes some women .....hiccup
And if you want a contraceptive girls, dog fat's the thing for you
Just stick a lump between your knees, it sticks like bloody glue.
