Hi - it sometimes takes a few days to get a response. This thread will disappear from the Forum Menu if nobody posts in 24 hours, but you can revive the thread by posting a new message to it.
Put gentlemen in the "Filter" box and set the age back, and the thread will appear.

Well, that was an informative post, wasn't it? I have virtually everything ever done by the Country Gentlemen, but I don't recall that one at the moment. I had it on one of the Rebel LP compilations, but it was not in the CD box set, so it's not likely that I can find it any time soon.

It is also on the fairly recent Can't You Hear Me Callin' Early Classics. You can hear it on Rhapsody here: http://www.rhapsody.com/countrygentlemen/cant-you-hear-me-callin-early-classics-1963-69 It's not likely that I'll find the time to do it anytime soon, but there it is, and here is the request back at the top of the page again. :)

Here you go, My Flog--these are the "Country Gentleman" Lyrics, which are different from some of the other lyrics that you may find on the internet--enjoy! You've got good taste--

CAN'T YOU HEAR ME CALLING

The days are dark the nights are lonely
Since you left me all alone
I've loved you so my little darling
I worried so since you've been gone

CHORUS: Sweetheart of mine can't you hear me calling
A million times I loved you best
I mistreated you, darling, I'm sorry
Come back to me is my request

I remember dear the night we parted
A big mistake had caused it all
If you'll come back sunshine will follow
To stay away would be my fall

The days are dark, the nights are lonely
How I need your sweet embrace
When I woke up, the sun was shining
When I looked up, I saw your face

Thank you for your response.
This song is included in only the LP album called "HOOTENANNY" and the CD album called "Can't you hear me Callin'" as you say.
Almost all printed leaflet of lyrics is enclosed with the foreign album released in Japan.
But Japanese recordmaker didn't release these 2 albums.
So I have to catch it by my poor English쳌@skill.
I'm not good at that.
But I do the effort I search for the person good at that.
Thank you again from Japan.

The song printed above, "Can't You Hear Me Calling" is a seperate song from "You Left Me Alone", which I have on the US LP John Duffy, Charlie Waller & The Country Gentlemen-"Bluegrass Country" (Pickwick JS6156)

On 28 Sep 09 - 04:21 PM when I said Well, that was an informative post, wasn't it? that wasn't in reference to Joe's post, but the blank one that used to be between his and mine.

So now you've got another one just like it. I managed to type just one letter and just like that, I've got another great post. Now when it gets erased, you'll be able to figure out what I am talking about. (or NOT talking about)

Rhapsody is a nice service. You will be able to play a limited number of songs before you have to join to hear more. The link I gave takes you right to the CD album lonely flog is referring to.

Dale sent me a recording, so here's my attempt at a transcription. It isn't very easy to understand.
This is a really lousy transcription. Maybe now that I've done the preliminary work, somebody can fill in the blanks.
In fact, this transcription is ludicrous, and I'm really embarrassed about it. I think I got the second verse right, though.

    YOU LEFT ME ALONE
    Songwriter: unknown
as recorded by the Country Gentlemen

    My dear you've been gone
    For such a long time;
    You know that that (drives?)
    Me out of my mind.
    You left me alone,
    And went on your way;
    And my broken heart,
    To cross it must pay....(?)

    The sigh of the wind,
    The beat of the rain,
    Brings back to my heart,
    This feeling of pain.
    I try to forget,
    But it never will be;
    For my broken heart
    Just won't set me free.

    When I close my eyes,
    Or look into space,
My scene of the dark (?)
    With your smiling face;
    Wherever I go,
    Whatever I say,
    My poor aching heart
    Will have its way.

    Oh, time is so long,
Till my heart is soothed (?)
    Till that very day
    I found your will (?)
    They will not cry
    Something is still gone
    And I can't forget
    You left me alone.

You Left Me Alone

My dear You've been gone , for such a long time
You know you have made me out my mind
You left me alone and way on your way
And my broken heart to cross it must pay

The sigh of wind the beat of the rain
Bring back to my heart this feelin' of pain
I try to forget but it never will be
For my broken heart just won't set me free

When I close my eyes or look in to space
My seene of the dark choose my own pain
Wherever I go , whatever I say
My poor achin' heart will have it's way

Oh! time is so long till my heart is soothed
Till that every day I follow your way
Pain would not die something is still gone
And I can't forget , you left me alone
***********************************************************

Finally, it's possible to make this song a repertoire of our bluegrass band.
I thank kind everybody.

The sigh of wind the beat of the rain
Bring back to my heart this feeling of pain
I try to forget but it never will be

I had a look/listen and I didn't come up with any better. It was not the most well articulated CG song ever recorded. Thanks to all those who made a stab at it.

Tom Gray is an interesting person.
http://dcbu.org/tomgray.htm Pick up any number of old National Geographic magazines, and you'll find his name attached to various maps in his alternate life as a cartographer.

I listened to a recording by Sam Bush on YouTube and this is what I hear:

YOU LEFT ME ALONE
Tom Gray/Jerry Stuart

My dear, you've been gone for such a long time.
You know you have driv'n me out my mind.
You left me alone and went on your way.
Now my broken heart is the price I must pay.

The sigh of wind, the beat of the rain
Brings back to my heart this feeling of pain.
I try to forget but it never will be,
'Cause my broken heart it just won't set me free.

When I close my eyes or look into space,
I see not the dark but your smilin' face.
Wherever I go, whatever I say,
My poor achin' heart will have its way.

The time must go on till my heart is still.
Till that very day, I'll follow your will.
The pain would not die for it must live on,
And I can't forget you left me alone.

Good thinking, Jim. I meant to check YouTube for an alternate recording, but I forgot.
I really enjoy doing joint transcriptions like this. The results of the group effort are almost always remarkably good.
Thanks to everyone who joined into this transcription party.

Now, would anybody like to help with Cathy Winter's Marie Laveau?

That was a much better version by Jim Dixon, but I have a few corrections, still, after listening to this song on KGNU radio and wondering what the name of it was.

You Left Me Alone
- Country Gentlemen

My dear, you've been gone for such a long time.
You know you have driv'n me out of my mind.
You left me alone and went on your way.
And my broken heart is the price it must pay.

The sigh of the wind, the beat of the rain
Brings back to my heart this feeling of pain.
I try to forget but it never will be,
For my broken heart just won't set me free.

When I close my eyes or look into space,
I see not the dark but your smilin' face.
Wherever I go, whatever I say,
My poor achin' heart will have its way.

Though time must go on till my heart is still.
Till that weary day, I'll follow your will.
The pain will not die for it must live on,
And I can't forget you left me alone.
