see his web site for tour dates and more info.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Russell

hear one of his masterpieces "Who's gonna build your wall"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZkAoosVLkA
which was released shortly before the scandal involving
construction contractors were caught employing illegal
immigrants on wall-building crews--how prophetic!

tune in david letterman just moments from now to see him

How many albums has he done by now? I only know a couple of his songs that I've gleaned off various recordings by other people (like Ian Tyson).

This CD appears to be Tom Russell's 20th.

It doesn't have much to do with the Cowboy Revival he is associated with.

Reviews are good, though.

he doesn't fit in any box....a genre-free man!!

here is the link to you tube clip of his performance
on David letterman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIDCYjvj5XUof

he speaks for a generation..
with the masterpiece work
The mand from God knows where
speaking immigration, roots, etc.

I've been listening to the new album (Blood and Candle Smoke) a lot in the past week.

Great production with lots of 'south of the border' flavour courtesy of Calexico and some songs are up there with his very best (Santa Ana Wind, Guadalupe).

All Music Guide seem to suggest in their review that it's a career high

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:kzfpxzealdhe

but for me he'll never top "The Man From God Knows Where" which takes me on a journey more than any other CD I think I've ever heard

NPR Saturday morning show (Scott Simon's show) did a long interview with Tom this morning (10/24/09), which should be in the archive in a few hours.
