Hey, Jerry, is it you or the music (recordings) that's "vintage?"    Inquiring minds want to know!

My recordings are vintage, Genie. I'm definitely not an "Oldie," although I was 74 the last time I checked. My definition of "old" is ten years older than me. It's a moving target. Right now, "old" is 84. I have a similar definition for "young." You're young if you're ten years younger than me. That makes you a young chickie, Genie.

Wonderful, ain't it?

I split an evening with my young friend Susan Trump a couple of weeks ago and started out with a song I wrote in 1964. That seems so weird? The song is 45 years old. (or is that young?)

I enjoy being Old Man Ribber. Or maybe that's my young friend, Art Thieme.

Thanks for all the friendly greetings, folks. I'm excited to start chatting with people on Mudcat. Pretty amazing site! I was lucky enough to discover Jerry's first album on Folk-Legacy (Was "Get Down Home" your first album?) when I was babysitting folksinger Mark Ross' record collection. He had all the Folk-Legacy records and I absolutely fell in love with the music of Art Thieme, Jim Ringer, Jerry Rasmussen, and other artists. One of these days, I'm gonna start collecting some of the old vinyl records.

And if anyone is interested, check out my band the Low Tide Drifters at www.myspace.com/lowtidedrifters. Sorry about the shameless self-promotion (chuckle).

Yeah, Nathan. Right after the Holidays I'm going to start working on a CD of the some of the gospel songs I've written that are included in my book The Gate Of Beautiful: Stories, Songs and Reflections On Christian Life.

Nice to hear these. Most of the songs are available on either "Get Down Home" or "Handful of Songs"--both available on cd from Folk Legacy
--if you'd like to have them to carry around.

best,

Barbara

I've bookmarked it for when I need a bit of encouragement.

"My definition of "old" is ten years older than me. That's how I calibrate it too.   And "young" is ten years younger than me.

A few years back I wrote a song about Jerry's singing, I don't do that kind of thing too often, but I wanted to say "thank you". Here's a link to where I posted it on the Mudcat.

Sho' is, Jerry! LOL

I don't quite qualify as "young" by your definition, Jerry, though you are a few years more "chronologically endowed" than I am. (Amos just barely qualifies as "young.) But I'm with you on that moving target thing.   "Old" will probably be at least a few years older than I am. That's as it should be, I think.

Now, if I had started writing songs (serious ones, not just parodies) when I was a teenager or a 20-something, maybe I could be enjoying some "golden oldies" of my own. ; D But I'm glad we have some of yours to appreciate!

I think it's my Mudcat buddies who are pushing those totals, Dan. And my thanks to you all.

I find it interesting and a comment on the times that they don't have a category for gospel or Christian music. Unless it's Christian rap, I guess.

Glad to see you back, Dan. The folks over at the Kitchen Table thread keep asking me to give you a nudge in hopes that you'll drop by over there. It's a good place to be.

I'm off to the post office with my first batch of Christmas cards to mail.
