A friend would like sheet music for this and has not found it. I presume it is French Canadian but don't know for sure. mg

Hi Mary,

That's a really nice tune - French Canadian
La Famille Leger in Seattle does a very nice version of the tune
HERE
I couldn't find the dots, but you could contact Devon
Or I might transcribe it if I have the time.

Cheers, S. in Seattle

No dots on the net as far as I know - and I did look....

I had a visiting fiddler, Adam Costa, transcribe it for me - pm me and I try to send you a copy.

Recorded by Gerry and Bobby Robichaud "The slippery Stick" - different version called "Moccassin Two-step" by Jo Robichaud on a sampler called "The art of traditional fiddle" Supposedly learned from an Indian Fiddler.

Best wishes
Ernest

I just got an MP3 from Gene and I'm guessing this tune is an Eskimo love song or an American Indian war dance of course I;m just guessing Louie

From The Fiddler's Companion:

MOCCASIN TWO-STEP. American (?), Two-Step. From the playing of the late Joe Robichaud (d. 1999), a fiddler from northern New Hampshire who learned the tune from a trapper friend who claimed he acquired it from a Native American musician. The tune was untitled, so Robichaud invented "Moccasin Two-Step" for his version. Rounder Heritage Series 1166-11592-2, Oscar "Joe" Robichaud (et al) – "The Art of Traditional Fiddle" (2001).
