We are on Pete Burnham's Leicestershire Folk Diary. I just sent an e-mail to FolkSpace lists but it doesn't look as though the site has been updated for 6 years so I don't know if it is still being maintained. Cheers.

Is this going to be a regular event or is it a one-off?

We are hoping it will be a regular event and plan to run it on the third Monday of the month. We tried it in November and got a small number of good musicians turn up, Monday nights are always quiet in the pub so we shouldn't upset the regulars too much. The plan is to give it a few months trial to see how it goes. Obviously being so close to Christmas it could go either way next week!

Its just off the A444 so convenient for Burton, Ashby, Tamworth, Swadlincote and most parts of South Derbyshire and North West Leicestershire. It should kick off about 8.30.

Hi there. Yes, we intend to run this session on the 3rd Monday monthly, assuming there is interest (see above). We will definitely do January and February as we don't know how tonight will go, being so close to Christmas and the condition of the roads. I missed out on getting it on Folkwaves this time round but will make sure it goes on in January, along with other radio stations. Hope that helps.

Next trad. session at the Drum and Monkey, Castle Gresley will be on Monday 18th January, at 8.30. Hopefully the weather will have improved by then and a few more people will venture out!

Thanks to those of you who turned up last month. We are holding another session at the Drum and Monkey, Castle Gresley (near Swadlincote) on Monday 15th February. Rumour has it that the management is changing again so we can't guarantee future sessions, will keep you posted.

Any particular style of music? (English, Irish, USofA?)

All styles of music acceptable. At the moment we tend to play lively Irish/Scottish tunes but it all depends on the mix of musicians and what instruments they play. We will join in with anthing but are sensitive enough not to try to join in on tunes we don't know. The usual mix of instruments includes guitars, mandolin, banjo, fiddles, flute, tin whistle and bodhran, with the occasional English concertina and melodeon. Hope that helps

Next session at the Drum and Monkey, Castle Gresley is next Monday 15th March. The last session attracted more musicians than we have had so far. We could do with some more solid lead instruments.

Sorry I've left this a bit late, I've been really busy for the last week. There is to be an acoustic session at the Drum and Monkey, Castle Gresley tonight from around 8.30. The last couple haven't been particularly well supported so this might be the last one.

Cheers

Olga

MuddleC - are you who I think you are?

Thanks to everyone who turned up on Monday. There were about a dozen musicians - half of them under 30 which was great - and some people who just came to listen. We will have our next session on 17th May
and see how it goes.
