Don't ask me.......bbc wanted it.....Said we needed something "COOL" in a thread and so.............Plus she and Duane spent a lot of time last nite whacking each other with a trout. It's durability would lead me to believe it was frozen....I'M NOT KIDDING ABOUT THIS.....ASK JERI!!!!!!

So here you go bbc.......take it away Miss Cool Breeze!

If the trout was cool, it was not in Northeastern USA waters. The temp here has been over 90F (and often over 100F) almost every day this Summer.

Now tell me about this trout. First of all - no exaggeration please - how big was the trout? Second, how did it come to be in your posession? Were you angling or did you discretely place a stick of dynamite in a neighboring stream when no one was likely to be listening. Third, what kind of trout? There are numerous kinds, e.g. brown, brook, rainbow, etc.

Answer these questions and I will consider entering the fray in a topic near and dear to my heart.

Oh, boy. That's what I get for posting & then going out shopping. Bought salmon, by the way! OK, kids, go to Mudcat chat. Click on the name of one of the folks in there w/ you, to highlight it. Then, right-click on the name. From the menu that comes up, select "slap" & see what happens. If you're worried about hurting another person, highlight your own name! My brilliant son brought this feature to our attention & we were so amused, we lost control. Yes, some of us lead dull lives & are easily amused. I'm sorry, Bert; we didn't have our choice of fish. Dan, all I know about the trout was that it was "large." It was, also, lots of fun. I expect to meet many of you in the chatroom now. I'll hit anyone w/ a trout, if you like! catspaw, I knew I could count on you for a *cool* thread! Think the ASPCA will be coming after us soon?

BTW, it's a Steelhead trout. So, don't forget your hardhat, goggles, and safety shoes (especially if you're nekkid)when visiting Mudcat Chat. Catspaw49 just took a turn at the trout, you can too!!!

Awhile ago, when people were having trouble getting into chat, Tony Burns said that he got in using mIRC rather than Java. We downloaded it & that is how we are doing chat now. Here's the URL for the mIRC homepage

Yes, trout slapping is a mIRC feature. As a matter of fact you can customize the actions and add your own. It helps if you have some programming experience but even without it you can probably make some changes. For example, I have set up my version of mIRC so that I can give other chatters my Mudcat info (full name, instruments played, geographical location) with just 2 clicks of the mouse.

For those who would like to use mIRC to chat in the Mudcat room do the following:

1) Go to the mIRC web site and download and install the latest version of the program.

2) When you start mIRC you will get an Options dialog box. It should have the Connect category selected already. If it doesn't then select it.

3) Click the Add button. This will pop up the Add Server box. Put Mudcat in the Description field and www.mudcat.org in the IRC Server field. The Port field should already read 6667. If it doesn't change it. Press the Add button.

4)Fill in your name and emial address where required and press the Connect to IRC Server button.

5) This is from memory as my customization here at work no longer reflects the original setup. You will be presented a mIRC Channels Folder. In the field at the top enter #mudcat (There is a pound sign in front of the name and it must be there.) Press the Join button and if all goes well you will be in the chat room.

That's it. The next time you start mIRC you will just have to press the Connect button and select #mudcat and press join in the Channels Folder. (You can delete all those other channels if you are only going to use Mudcat).

I have discovered a bit of a problem since going into the chat room. After I exited & disconnected, my dial-up connection kept dialing up my provider again at 5 min intervals. I had to close down & restart the computer to get away from it....

Anyone else had thew same problem?

For those of us running on fairly low memory levels, the javachat has the advantage of not eating up a few more meg of memory with the client program. 'sides, you can whack someone with whatever you want... you just have to use more than one mouseclick...

My VOPF slap went something like this (pardon any mem lapse in advance):

hangs from the wall, covers in chocolate syrup, and sprinkles on the almonds, as an example to the others.

It was at this point I discovered mIRC slaps were customizable, and I had to be carted away for slap abuse.

Though I have not tested the trout/slap side, I have found the equivalent for MAC users at : http://www/ircle.com.
Tony's instructions work more or less the same, though there are slight differences.

I had a great time at bbc's and just returned home. (Barb, there was no problem getting back if you don't count going about 28 miles in the wrong direction on I84 before I realized New Hampshire was slightly northeast of your house. Don't tell anyone, they'll laugh at me.)

Anyhow, this is for Duane and anyone else who has problems figuring out fish-whacking.

1. Ya gotta have mIRC installed - bbc wrote the URL
where you can get it somewhere in this thread.
2. Open up mIRC
3. Go to Tools/Popups
4. Select View/Nickname List 5. The format for stuff - example:
Retaliates!:/me smacks $$1 over the head with a catfish
Retaliates! is the name you give it and shows up in your list of smart-ass things to say.
:/ has got to be in there - it probably tells the computer 'OK, here it is, right after the :/ thingie'
'me' is what tells it to stick your user name in there
The $$1 symbol is what tells it to put in the name you're gonna highlight in to the message.

When you're done entering your smart-ass things to say, you can use them by:
In the list of users in the window on the right, right click (or left click for Lefties) the nickname of the user you want to thump. You'll get a pop up menu of smart ass things to say. Click the one you want to use.
