27 Jul 99 - 04:28 PM (#99856) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: Jeri IT'S ALL TRUE!!! We were in the chat room trying to have a serious discussion about the nature of life, and those two were busy pummeling each other with a piscene. And giggling a lot. I was a little frightened when they started going after us. |
27 Jul 99 - 04:43 PM (#99864) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: Bert Trout? - TROUT??? That's blasphemy 'round here. Catfish ONLY in future PLEASE!!!! |
27 Jul 99 - 04:49 PM (#99868) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: Liam's Brother If the trout was cool, it was not in Northeastern USA waters. The temp here has been over 90F (and often over 100F) almost every day this Summer. Now tell me about this trout. First of all - no exaggeration please - how big was the trout? Second, how did it come to be in your posession? Were you angling or did you discretely place a stick of dynamite in a neighboring stream when no one was likely to be listening. Third, what kind of trout? There are numerous kinds, e.g. brown, brook, rainbow, etc. Answer these questions and I will consider entering the fray in a topic near and dear to my heart.
All the best, P.S. Were you really whacking each other with the fish? |

27 Jul 99 - 06:08 PM (#99913) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: bbc Oh, boy. That's what I get for posting & then going out shopping. Bought salmon, by the way! OK, kids, go to Mudcat chat. Click on the name of one of the folks in there w/ you, to highlight it. Then, right-click on the name. From the menu that comes up, select "slap" & see what happens. If you're worried about hurting another person, highlight your own name! My brilliant son brought this feature to our attention & we were so amused, we lost control. Yes, some of us lead dull lives & are easily amused. I'm sorry, Bert; we didn't have our choice of fish. Dan, all I know about the trout was that it was "large." It was, also, lots of fun. I expect to meet many of you in the chatroom now. I'll hit anyone w/ a trout, if you like! catspaw, I knew I could count on you for a *cool* thread! Think the ASPCA will be coming after us soon? bbc |
27 Jul 99 - 07:16 PM (#99932) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: Jeri I just was in there. I don't know if Max got tired of fish abuse and changed it, but you can only just slap people now. (Or maybe it's just me.) It says the website administrator has control over the shortcuts. |
27 Jul 99 - 07:24 PM (#99935) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: bbc Jeri, we are chatting in mIRC. Are you? My fish still works! bbc |
27 Jul 99 - 07:58 PM (#99947) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: Duane D. If anyone feels left out, meet me in the Mudcat chatroom and I'll slap you with a large trout (or we could have a duel). |

27 Jul 99 - 08:50 PM (#99962) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: Duane D. BTW, it's a Steelhead trout. So, don't forget your hardhat, goggles, and safety shoes (especially if you're nekkid)when visiting Mudcat Chat. Catspaw49 just took a turn at the trout, you can too!!! |
27 Jul 99 - 09:15 PM (#99965) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: bbc Awhile ago, when people were having trouble getting into chat, Tony Burns said that he got in using mIRC rather than Java. We downloaded it & that is how we are doing chat now. Here's the URL for the mIRC homepage http://www.mirc.co.uk/index.html If we need more help than that, maybe Tony can assist? Jeri & catspaw, we're sorry we beat you up last night. We thought everyone had fish to play with! Maybe we can have a re-match? bbc |

I got in without a problem but there was no-one else there.... (12.20pm UK time). Were you really writing your messager at half past 4 in the morning? Good God! Sue |
28 Jul 99 - 08:19 AM (#100075) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: Tony Burns Yes, trout slapping is a mIRC feature. As a matter of fact you can customize the actions and add your own. It helps if you have some programming experience but even without it you can probably make some changes. For example, I have set up my version of mIRC so that I can give other chatters my Mudcat info (full name, instruments played, geographical location) with just 2 clicks of the mouse. For those who would like to use mIRC to chat in the Mudcat room do the following: 1) Go to the mIRC web site and download and install the latest version of the program. 2) When you start mIRC you will get an Options dialog box. It should have the Connect category selected already. If it doesn't then select it. 3) Click the Add button. This will pop up the Add Server box. Put Mudcat in the Description field and www.mudcat.org in the IRC Server field. The Port field should already read 6667. If it doesn't change it. Press the Add button. 4)Fill in your name and emial address where required and press the Connect to IRC Server button. 5) This is from memory as my customization here at work no longer reflects the original setup. You will be presented a mIRC Channels Folder. In the field at the top enter #mudcat (There is a pound sign in front of the name and it must be there.) Press the Join button and if all goes well you will be in the chat room. That's it. The next time you start mIRC you will just have to press the Connect button and select #mudcat and press join in the Channels Folder. (You can delete all those other channels if you are only going to use Mudcat). Happy chatting and trout slapping. (I hope I got all my html right) |

28 Jul 99 - 09:51 AM (#100113) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: SueH I have discovered a bit of a problem since going into the chat room. After I exited & disconnected, my dial-up connection kept dialing up my provider again at 5 min intervals. I had to close down & restart the computer to get away from it....
Anyone else had thew same problem? Sue |

I think the time on the messages must be American or Pacific time; I see the time for my last message was 9.51am, where actually I think it was about 2.30pm!
I thought you had to be an insomniac Mudcat addict![G] Sue |
28 Jul 99 - 04:11 PM (#100250) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: Tony Burns If anyone wants to practice in the chat room I'm there now and will likely be around for about an hour. |

28 Jul 99 - 05:25 PM (#100266) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: bbc Sean, the Java version takes *forever* to load on my machine *and* I can't hit people w/ fish on it. What's the advantage? |
28 Jul 99 - 05:59 PM (#100283) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: Jeri I perhaps may see you in there later tonight? And have a chance to retaliate? |
28 Jul 99 - 06:07 PM (#100287) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: bbc Sorry, Jeri, maybe not tonight. Liam's Brother is leading an Irish session in our area & the 3 of us are going. Sounds great! Get me later; I'll give you a good shot! bbc |
28 Jul 99 - 07:03 PM (#100297) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: SeanM For those of us running on fairly low memory levels, the javachat has the advantage of not eating up a few more meg of memory with the client program. 'sides, you can whack someone with whatever you want... you just have to use more than one mouseclick... ;^) M |
29 Jul 99 - 12:08 AM (#100359) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: bbc Times are really getting hot in the chatroom! Beware of fish, folks changing names--all manner of stuff! 29 Jul 99 - 03:29 PM (#100535) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: Peter T. Though I have not tested the trout/slap side, I have found the equivalent for MAC users at : http://www/ircle.com. 29 Jul 99 - 03:33 PM (#100537) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: bbc I fear that trout slapping is addictive. I may have to join TSA (Trout Slappers Anon.). "Hi, my name is bbc and I am a trout slapper!" Did that come out sounding too cheerful? Sigh. |
29 Jul 99 - 04:45 PM (#100579) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: Jeri Well, thanks to Tony Burns at least I was able to figure out how to hit people with the appropriate fish. (Cats, don'tcha know!) |
01 Aug 99 - 10:38 PM (#101419) Subject: RE: COOL FROZEN TROUT WHACKING THREAD From: Jeri I had a great time at bbc's and just returned home. (Barb, there was no problem getting back if you don't count going about 28 miles in the wrong direction on I84 before I realized New Hampshire was slightly northeast of your house. Don't tell anyone, they'll laugh at me.) Anyhow, this is for Duane and anyone else who has problems figuring out fish-whacking.
1. Ya gotta have mIRC installed - bbc wrote the URL
When you're done entering your smart-ass things to say, you can use them by: Thanks to TonyBurns for teaching me how to do this and helping me fix my stuff. |
