BS: Xnas is postponed.

In Czech Republic today (24th) is traditionally Christmas Day, and I should have been there now, but thanks to a certain low cost airline my flight on 22nd got cancelled and the earliest alternative was on 26th.
:(

So my change of my itinery

(1) Christmas Eve will be on Boxing Day
(2) Christmas Day will be on 27th December (Christmas Dinner with my partner and her mother) and also on 3rd of January (Christmas Dinner with my partner and her grown-up kids!)
That means that there will be two new years/new years eve.
(1) The traditional new year which will last for 2 days before reverting back to 2009 on the 3rd of January.
(2) As 3rd of January will be reverting back to December 2009, then New year will also be on 5th/6th January in time for our flight to UK on 8th January, at which point normal order will be restored.

This works out well for me as the 3rd-5th of January will be in 2009, so I won't have used 3 days of my leave entitlement for 2010. The upshot, however, is that 2010 will only have 362 days, the shortest year since the change to the new calendar. I am just glad that I will be on holiday when all this is happening and I don't have to pursuade my clients, and the UK Goverment (HMRC) to work around this!

Let's all copy the Aussies and have Christmas in the middle of June. No travel problems, outdoor parties, `long evenings for shopping. Keep Yule as a winter celebration if we need cheering up in the cold, and return it to the original celebration of unity with neighbours.

Amen to that, Paul. I'm sure this idea would get tremendous support from commercial entities if they thought they could better exploit Winter Solstice as well.

What do Australians and New Zealanders and Patagonians and so forth etc do to cheer themselves up in mid-winter with no Christmas?

Xnas is the day after Xmas, and the day before Xoas. The day before Xmas is, of course, Xlas.

Well, that is a good thing we are postponing Xenophobia for a day.

(Sorry for your Xmas plans being ruined, SPB. I don't mean to make light of your suffering with the Xnas typo jokes).

This might be useful to follow your mint, Spaw. Or even your mint spy.

The name Boxing Day derives from the Anglo-Saxon tradition giving seasonal gifts to less wealthy people and social inferiors. Until their distribution, these gifts were stored in a "Christmas box", which was opened on December 26, when the contents were distributed In the United Kingdom, this was later extended to various workpeople such as labourers and servants.

I could do with a servant around for the next few days!

"...is another name for a guy's, well, you know..."

Yes... I first heard this when I was about 11...I remember thinking, "Wow, that's a dumb thing to call it." (Of course MOST euphemisms are dumb.)
