Does any one know or have the full lyrics to a song mike harding sang once or twice in the 70/80's ?
It went;
Come one , come all ...........the parting glass, come sit you down by me,..... and no matter who should play (could be 'pay the host') the host, come bide a while with me..bide a while... bide a while

Tnanks

Yes it's Bide Awhile - written by Tom Yates who was originally from Rochdale and sang around the Manchester folk scene in the 60s. I still sing it, and I think Arthur Wakefield, who runs the club in Bollington at the Dog and Partridge also does.

Another of Tom's songs was "Central Station, Sunday morning". I seem to recollect he moved to London, and someone told me a few years ago that he later moved to Amsterdam where he has since died.

I recognized the lines because someone used to sing the song in a local session (Jay Smith, in the Press Room, Portsmouth, New Hampshire), and I sang on the choruses. I don't know that anyone's sung it there since he died.

Thanks for the words of Bide Awhile. My friend Cathy gave me a recording of this song on CD to me to learn as one of my first folk songs to sing at folk club in Charlwood, Surrey. I have know idea where she learnt it.

Tom Yates was a consumate performer and contrary to what one idiot placed on a previous thread a good bloke, at least in my experience of him. His version of No Woman No Cry, (the Bob Marley classic)suitably adapted to the streets of Salford was sublime. He wrote a number of very fine songs and this song has long been one of my favourites and one which invariably goes down well with audiences.
