Thread Name: BU Praise& Worship Songbook Text
Subject: RE: BU Praise& Worship Songbook Text
what is the origin of "this is holy ground

I remember something that went like this:
Holy ground, we're standing on holy ground,
For the Lord is present, and where He is, is holy.

But that's all I recall, and I don't know if that's the song you want.

There are two very different songs from the same era with similar themes, BTW.

WE ARE STANDING ON HOLY GROUND

We are standing on holy ground and
I know that there are angels all around
Let us praise Jesus now
For we are standing in His presence
On holy ground.

From: Joe Offer

Here's the entire text of that second one.

HOLY GROUND
(Geron Davis)

Verse 1
When I walked through the doors I sensed His presence
And I knew this was a place where love abounds
For this is a temple the God we love abides here
Oh we are standing in His presence on holy ground

CHORUS
We are standing on holy ground
And I know that there are angels all around
Let us praise Jesus now
For we are standing in His presence on holy ground

Verse 2
In His presence I know there is joy beyond all measure
And at His feet sweet peace of mind can still be found
For when we have a need He is still the answer
Reach out and claim it for we are standing on holy ground

CHORUS

Let us praise Jesus now
For we are standing in His presence on holy ground

Recorded by Barbara Streisand on her Higher Ground CD. Streisand substitutes "God" for "Jesus."

Thanks, Joe-- I've never heard or seen the longer form.

As a praise-piece, most folks know only the chorus version. Lotta "praise and worship" genre stuff is like that-- just the chorus, for easily-remembered group singing sans songbook or with overhead projectors only.

Yeah, the Celebration Hymnal has just the chorus of the Geron Davis song, but most recordings seem to have the whole shebang.
John Michael Talbot introduced us "Vatican II Catholics" to the Beatty song.

ANGELS OF HEAVEN
Text and tune: Brother Ephraim Frost
Whitewater, Ohio, 1872

The angels of heaven are marching around
the borders of Zion's holy ground.
Their music harmonious how it doth ring,
and this is the heavenly song they sing.

Holy, holy, holiness unto the Lord.
Love ye, love ye, love ye one another.

INDUSTRY REQUIRED

Where My hand hath spread around blessings on on My holy ground
Let no slothful man be found wasting what is given.
Where My hand hath spread around blessings on on My holy ground
Let no slothful man be found wasting what is given.

Hands to work and hearts to be oft in prayer, oh, bow the knee.
Unto such my blessings bring, as the dews of heaven.
Hands to work and hearts to be oft in prayer, oh, bow the knee.
Unto such my blessings bring, as the dews of heaven.

An Australian band called the Scientists did a cover (or an inspired original) of this song.

Or so I remember from years past.
